i need to replace the engine in a 02 with a 4.6 will any other years or models fit or i can i only use an 02 explorer engine thanks

 

Just curious, what happened to the old engine?

Some 4.6L engines will have two knock sensors instead of one like the Explorer uses. Other SOHC engines should work, it just may be hard to get around the wiring issue.

I have read about people putting Mustang 4.6L engines in the Explorer. The cast iron block vs. aluminum does not seem to be an issue.

 

it was run low on oil has multipull noise issues and runs like crap

 

in the state of california, you may only put in an engine of the same year or newer. thats all i know.
