f250 e4od question
Hello everybody. Finished up my 1979 Bronco/just purchased my first 1995 f250 7.3 xlt diesel banger. I wanted to cleanup/change out all the old tranny fluid, including the TC, original cooler, plus the additional cooler I tied into the old cooler. In viewing several posts/discussions/photos, it seems like the e4od has a rubber access plug to drain the TC? My trans doesn't have a rubber plug cover, just a metal dust cover over the front of the trans. Before I drop the pan/dust cover, I wanted to make sure this is in fact an E4od. The PO said he thought it was the original tranny?? Would appreciate any input. Great site/thank you for any assistance. JK

Thanks for the reply. I know the plug to drain the TC is located on the TC itself but I've seen posts/pics that show a large round "rubber" type access plug that's on the side of the tranny which you can pull off and see the TC without taking off the dust cover? Thanks for the heads up on the double tranny cooler. Just got through the old post about this one. Thanks for your help. JK

Have a read here for a method written by one of the E4OD experts.
There is nothing wrong in fitting an auxillary trans cooler provided you pipe it in series with the stock one.

Thanks for the reply, Lazy K. I figured it was an e4od because of the bolt pattern. My 79 Bronco only had 17. I was just curious about the photos I viewed that showed a large "rubber" access type plug that you could remove to view the TC to line up the drain plug on the TC without removing the front dust cover. Also, regarding the 2 aux. trans coolers-----I've gotten a couple of hits that said "never join the stock cooler with an additional cooler" due to increased fluid pressure drops in the tranny. Just add one "bigger" cooler instead. Well, I just drove 600 mi. towing a 7200lb. Airstream trailer with a large aux cooler properly tied in with my stock cooler/didn't seem to have any issues, at least, not for now! Thanks again. JK
