Lowering a 1990 E150

I have been searching for lowering kits for my 90 E150 and so far all I have found is drop I-Beams for 92 and up. Does anyone know if these will work or if there are drop I-Beams for earlier models?

I am a quadriplegic and have been driving the van for 20 years. Its got a 2 inch body lift to make room for the lowered floor which is 6" lower than normal. The van rides high and looks good with big tires but now I want to go low and wide. I've added a hood scoop, headers, side pipes, rear louvers, and am planning fender flares, spoiler, and some fat MT's on solid chrome. Lowering it will make the overall look that I am going for but it will also make the ride better.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
BrokeNeck Charlie

I don't think you will get a better ride by lowering it. There is hardly 2" of upward travel in stock form and lowering will only reduce this. Lower sidewall tires will make it even worse.

The 92' and newer .models have a totally different chassis including a ball joint front end, whereas your 90' has kingpins.

Thanks. What is limiting the upward travel?

I've read that there are at least 10 different part numbers for I beams and while under my van during an oil change, it looked as though the 2 beams were different lengths. I'll measure them next week to verify. So to answer your question, the odds are pretty slim. Even if the track wad the same, the pivot points could be closer or further apart making the beams longer or shorter.

Dropped I beams

Found the following:

I Beams,dropped

Its gonna take me some time to get to it but I think this plus shackles and hangers in the back will do it!

You might wanna call them and verify. Their image shows a beam with balljoints, and your van has kingpins. It may change your alignment specs, and it may reduce the wieght capacity of your van.

Yeah, I noticed that too but the title says they need the kingpin size. I think the kingpin design is all they made for those years. Yet when I called them, the guy said my van has ball joints (which I know it does not). I am not sure he knew what he was talking about and he could not explain why his own title of the product said I needed to provide king pin size if I had ball joints as he thought.

Has there ever been a pre 91 with ball joints?
