Thanks Joe.

I was just trying to make those guys and gals at Bob's jealous.

Oh, and I found another piece of the rotted boot inside the tranny cover, so I removed that too. It was the top I believe, as it was a force fit over the pedal end of the linkage.

Hope I don't get too much grief asking this but I really don't know the answer so here goes. Would you feel ok about pulling this with your truck Joe? And I'm not trying to say specifically your particular truck but I don't know the real world towing capabilities of the bigger old trucks. And just for reference I'm not talking about touring the country I'm talking about say you needed to move it a couple hours drive maybe 3 or 4 times a year at most. I'm doing some thinking....thanks. Oh for size the "tiny house" is 24' long x 8' wide x 13'4 tall. They weigh anywhere from around 10,000 pounds up to 14,000 pounds....give or take.

Looks like a "KOA Cabin" or at least that's what I've seen them reference to around here. I've seen some with very creative floorplans. I'd like to have one for my lake property....someday

I would imagine and F4 would have no trouble lugging one of those around a few times a year.

The GVWR on my truck is 10,000 pounds. I don't think they gave a towing spec in the 50's, but someone far more knowledgeable than me will hopefully chime in. I've never seen a Gross Trailer Weight Rating for these trucks.

Betsy weighs just over 5,000 pounds. The way I understand Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the weight of the truck, driver, passengers, cargo and fuel, but does not include trailers.

I have never done it, but I'm positive Betsy could pull a 14,000 pound trailer.

But, to answer your question, I would never try that with the stock brakes, even with trailer brakes. I think that would be dangerous.

I've pulled a few loaded horse trailers with a '79 F-250 / 460 guzzler and was glad I had the trailer brakes going down the Grapevine on I-5. Those trailers only weighed a little over 5,000 pounds though. And iirc that truck had front discs and rear drums.

I guess I should also have mentioned that I have stock gearing and trans, so I couldn't move that trailer very fast even if I wanted to. Picture the Space Shuttle/Toyota Tundra commercial...

Yeah when I'm towing I tend to take my time. I've seen too many flipped RV's in the median.

That's All Folks!

Many of you know I've been waiting for this day for many, many years. And I've been counting the days for about a year.

As of 5:00 pm Pacific time I am officially retired. I haven't been without a job for over 50 years.

I have to admit, I haven't fully realized this milestone yet. I hope it sinks in soon.

But since this IS a build thread and since I didn't start a new OT thread, I'll just say that I moved Betsy out of the garage so I could work on the right side mirror on my car that I ripped off this morning by hitting Betsy's bed while backing the car out of the garage.

The car has some cool features, which means the stinking mirror costs over $300.

Congrats on your retirement! If you are like my dad when he retired, you will be busier now than you've ever been.

I'll come out there and kick your *** if you get up at the same time tomorrow! Congratulations! Now slow it down, and enjoy life! After 2 years, I couldn't go back to work if my life depended on it!

I'd love to have you come out... except for the *** kicking. You're always welcome at our house.

Kathy's already drilled into me that I don't need to get up so early anymore ... EVER, as she put it. I am planning to TRY to sleep in. Actually, I need to get more sleep. So, now that I shouldn't be waking up 4 to 6 times a night wondering if the alarm is going to go off and I'm going to be at the airport on time for my flight, maybe that will start to happen.

Thanks Mark!

Yes, I'll be busy. But I'll be busy doing the things (mostly) that I want to do instead of "work". Since I've been living out of a suitcase for 36 of the last 40 years, I have a long list of things I want to do... my bucket list... that I couldn't do because I was always gone.

Can I get some cheese with my whine?

Welcome to the ORF club. It takes a while to settle in but I am sure you can handle it, Joe. I've been retired almost twenty years and still wake up once in a while thinking about work. I stay exactly as busy as I want to.
Edit: Except when the wife tells me to do something.
