I just purchased my 56' this week. The motor run, kind of, carb dumps gas like a faucet so I have some work to do. I have already gotten some good ideas from your build that I hope to incorporate into mine. It has been a grain truck all of its life. Came of a farm in South Dakota. No cancer that I can find, a few dents but, overall in fairly good shape. Once I get it to my back yard I'll start a build thread. Shooting to have is completed with in 1 to 2 year. I hope!

You're a very lucky man, Cobwebman. I'll briefly hijack Joe's thread to tell you the wheels on your F-600 are the very desirable tubeless 22.5s. Hopefully they all match the two that are visible in your picture. They spare you the expense and safety issues normally associated with old trucks equipped with widow maker two part wheels. Stu

All six wheels are the same. Even the spare. The tires are a different story though. They're a smooth as a baby's butt. But, one of my sons works for a tire company that specializes in semi-tires. He can get me a set of 9r22.5's for $225 each. That will be my first big investment for this truck.

I was going to ask about the wheels. Glad you chimed in. No hijack detected.

That's a great price for those tires. Nice looking truck. I look forward to following your build thread.

I saw your build thread before I saw that you had commented here. So, I already replied in your thread. Nice truck... we're going to enjoy watching your build.

Thanks Jimmy. I learned all I know about this truck (after I bought it 5 years ago) here on FTE. Great bunch of knowledgeable folks willing to help out and offer advice.

I've decided to sell this truck to my son, who originally found and wanted to buy it but I convinced him it would take a lot of work to make it a daily driver. I was right and wrong. Yes, it took a lot of work to make it driveable. No, it will never be a daily driver. At least, not with the stock drive train.

But after 5 years, he still wants it. So, this thread is not completely dead, but I can no longer feel a pulse.

I may show up again in another forum if I get the 65 F100 I've been wanting for decades. But for now, I'll say adios and thanks for the good times.

Hey joe

Since I'm waiting for my tires to get back and have a been driving it regularly what's my next surprise what do you mean drivetrain ?....
How bad is it to go 55?
I'm going to a 22.5 tire
Is the drive train workable or set and obsolete like wheels?

Well, I found the transmission easy to work on. But I don't mind double-clutching the spur gear transmission.

The rear gears cannot be changed to accommodate higher speeds. But if you can find a Dana 70 HD, I understand it's a great swap.

The suspension also limits how fast I want to bounce down the road. I suppose leafs could be removed, but I like the ride height of the F4.

So, with a stock drive train, your 22.5 tires will give you the best road speed.
