Well I guess it's a good thing that thread is locked. A comment like your would tempt someone to post on that thread again. Of course I would never do something like that.

Congrats on the throttle. We don't want you driving through some store front.

Yeah Joe, it's a really weird feeling to take your foot off the pedal and have the rpms keep rising. Luckily there were no other vehicles sharing the street.

And I made sure that thread was locked before I mentioned it. Most of you probably don't look at the replies and views counts , since you're not blabbermouths. But I've been chasing Julie's thread for a long time. I get excited about some pretty dumb things...

What!?!? Those kind of shenanigans would never happen around here. We are all far to mature and professional for anything so base.......*dang, I was almost able to type that with a straight face....)

Congrats on the throttle stop. Its nice to be able to slow down when you want

It wasn't a runaway problem but I was afraid the engine might blow up as I still had the clutch in.

Unbelievable how hard it is to find the ignition switch while driving down the street... I mean, it's right there.

That would be excellent! And there's no rush to find it, but I appreciate you looking.

I find it most disturbing you've been tracking that.
I won't hijack your thread with an analysis.

Joe I'm glad to hear you got the throttle fixed! And again like lots of other times I have learned something about my truck from your thread. I don't believe I was aware that the throttle return spring was at the pedal. I thought I was missing a spring on mine, so I had attached one from the linkage at the carb down to the draft tube. Of course that and everything else is dismantled now, so when I finish tearing the engine down, and then get it back together, I can investigate the throttle return too!
Oh, and congrats on your upcoming big day- I already have the progressive lenses, so hopefully mine won't be too far away.

That's not the return spring, it just acts as a flexible connection between the pedal and the linkage.

I think I may have worded it wrong. The throttle return spring attaches to the carburetor linkage and to a cotter pin on the firewall.

The spring I was talking about is not really used as a spring so much as a retainer for holding the ball tip on the pedal end of the throttle linkage. That's this spring.

And it goes on here.

The throttle return spring is shown here for the 6 cylinder.

And thank you for the congrats. I have one more week to work.

Thank you for the diagram- I see what I am missing, but I have learned that I should have one in a box of parts I hauled from my TN from truck neighbor Ray!

Jolly Roger Joe, could you tell me what ratio your F4's rear end is (I hope the answer is 5.14:1). Also is it a Timken or Ford differential? (I am looking for a 5.14:1 for my 1946 1-1/2 ton Ford, and I've been told that 1948-52 F4's came from the factory with them.)

Thank you,
Dick

Hi Dick,

I see you're a long time member, but welcome to the forum anyway.

Yes the rear gears in Betsy are a 5.14:1 ratio. The Parts Catalog sometimes calls it a Ford for 50/52. But it's listed as a Timken for 48/49. And in a different section, it's shown as a Timken 51524 for 48/52 or a Timken 53566 for 48/49. If this confuses you, welcome to my world.

I don't know whether I have a Ford or a Timken, but it is geared 5.14:1. I rotated the rear wheels and counted the revolutions of the drive shaft to see if it was 5.14 or 5.83.

Here's some printed specs. Maybe you can figure it out... Good luck.

I have no idea if this rear axle will fit your truck. How wide is your frame? I think all the Bonus Built F4 - F6 are 34".

Not much going on...

While some of our friends are having fun at Bob's house, I decided to do SOMETHING on my truck since I can't go to the midwest this weekend.

Before I had the problem with my throttle sticking wide open, I never even noticed the plate that holds the pedal boot down. That's part number 8112117 in the Illustrations Catalog. It's not in the Text Catalog strangely enough. I probably never noticed it because the PO painted everything on the truck the same color.

So anyway I removed it, cleaned the rust off and primed and painted it. Don't anyone get over excited now, but here are the exciting pics.
