6.7L Exhaust Options

6.7L Exhaust Options
Haven't bought yet, but this debacle of exhaust fluid really puts me in the slow lane to making a decision on when to buy. I'm pretty much sold on the new trucks, and even though I'm a 4th generation GM guy, the Ford is just so much more imposing to look at. I've seen some youtube videos of guys who straightpiped their new 6.7's, but it sounds like a blender. Is it like that every time you let off the gas, or only under hard braking conditions? Kinda sounds like the exhaust brake is on all the time.
I personally would love to remove the urea tank, and dpf filter on mine, but was wondering if I could still run a muffler on it, blow black smoke, and not worry about the muffler clogging up? Would I need thicker piping? I'm not sure what size the piping is.

Black smoke is the main reason why emissions controls are so much tighter these days. You will be hard pressed to get much help on FTE in that regard. I've heard of other forums lending more to that crowd.
The two emission control systems on the 6.7 are combating soot (black smoke - taken care of with the DPF) and oxides of nitrogen (what leads to smog/acid rain - what the DEF reacts with to neutralize). All diesel engine manufacturers are being strapped to ever tighter regulations. Even new compact utility tractors (~24hp) have IT4 engines now.
I also don't have any qualms about the DEF. I had a 6.4 before and didn't want to get in to the DEF as it was another consumable and "junk" added to the truck. My 6.4 was totaled in January and I replaced it with a 6.7. I didn't hesitate with getting one as there were quite a few of them out there by that time and I saw a few in action (rickatic's and Crazy001's) a few weeks before. These are great trucks all around. I drive mine every day and enjoy every mile. The only "mods" I will do are shocks and a dual steering stabilizer, like EpicCowlick's mod, in the next couple months.

Welcome to FTE, DenaliHD66!
What would the purpose of the delete be? It can be done, but you will need to run aftermarket tuning to make it work, and thus sacrifice your warranty on a very expen$ive warranty.
These trucks get around 1,000 MPG of DEF, so the cost isn't really an issue for most of us. Why get rid of it?

I sold a 2003 (no emissions) Duramax to get my 6.7. When I was looking at the new GM and Ford diesels, I was really worried about DEF, another consumable and what it would mean.
In the end, I decided it shouldnt be the reason I decide to purchase a new truck and that the "joys" of having a no emissions truck before, was no longer an option.
I have about 1100 miles on my 6.7 and have no plans to mess with the exhaust either. Truck has great power, handles well and is a joy to drive.
So, dont let the fact that new trucks require DEF, be a deciding factor on a purchase.

DEF might be the one of the first emissions controls system that actually improves mileage over the previous technology in the last 10 years.
The DPF is the one that robs mileage. If you want to do the deletes...I'd vote getting a lightly used 6.4. They tune better and since you are throwing you warranty away anyway, you may as well save some cash.
I bought the 6.7 so I no longer have to drive around a tuned truck.

alright well if i kept the DEF and deleted the DPF would that open it up more? and are you saying that voids the warranty? the only exhaust notes i've heard on youtube are the straight piped ones, which don't sound very good. so these trucks have DEF, a DPF, and a muffler?
anyone just have replaced the muffler to give it a nicer growl?
