Another 6.0 no start

I've been reading the threads and Tech bulletins about this, but figured I would start a new thread to help save me diagnostics time if possible, and refrain from hijacking someone else's thread. I appologize in advance if this is an inconvenience for anyone.

A week ago I completed an EGR delete on my 2005 W21. Ran like a top for 5 days. I changed out the old Pennzoil HDD 15W-40 and filter to Rotella T. Truck runs fine for a day, then loses all power, no throttle response, and dies 1/2 mile from my shop. Now a no start. DRT!

I push it home, all 1/2 mile, in this crazy 120*F heat

Today I hook up the scan tool and get the following codes:

1) P0263 - INJ Cylinder #1 contribution/balance power. Cylinder, valve train, or injector failure.

2) P2284 - ICP Injector control pressure sensor circuit range/performance. A difference in commanded versus actual injection oil pressure was detected.

3) P2285 - ICP Injector control pressure sensor circuit low. ICP signal is lower than specified value.

4) P2290 - ICP Injector control pressure too low. Actual pressure is less than commanded for a specified time.

5) P2291 - ICP Injector control pressure too low. Engine ICP cranking pressure too low.

Currently I am going down the list of troubleshooting steps on Bismic's "Troubleshooting a NO-START 6.0" tech bulletin. I am currently at step 21, and will skip to step 26 afterwards. If no results there, I will be on to the HPOS troubleshooting. I have a new IPR harness on order, just not here yet.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom, or ideas that might save some steps or time? The codes thrown seem to be pointing me in the direction of the HPOS. Possibly the IPR valve and screen or leaky injector O-ring on Cyl. #1? Thanks in advance for any help. I'm trying to do this on a beer budget. The EGR cooler delete cost me tons in down-time and parts. This truck seems like the proverbial pot... the more you dig the deeper it gets, and the more it stinks.

Had my F350, stock, stop running 3 times in the last week. On my way to work this morning, stopped for coffee and no start. Ironically I had just printed yesterday the no start troubleshooting guide and have it with me. Seems to be when the engine is warmed up. I have had no cold start issues to speak of. I am several hundred feet from a local shop and have already called them. Question is will I get her started again or will it be a tow.

Sorry your having trouble too. If I get mine in and get an answer perhaps it will help you too. Eric

Judging by the codes Id say you have a HPO problem

have you tried to unhook the ICP sensor and see if it starts

did you use a stock oil filter

Yes, tried disconnecting the ICP sensor harness, but no change. The oil filter is a stock Motorcraft. I am working on the IPF harness now. So far pretty much everything is pointing to a restricted or faulty IPF. As soon as my socket gets here I will pull it and see. So far everything else checks out fine. I'm just worried that if an oil change resulted in moving something in the oil to restrict the IPF, and I clean or replace it, how long before it gets clogged again? Anyone got any ideas? Oil additives and solvents seem like they might make the problem worse, but thats JMHO.

Yep, brand new oil cooler. The delete consists of everything most other deletes do, with the one exception of leaving the EGR valve in place and hooked up. I would just as soon the inspection guy not see anything amiss, and if it keeps the CEL off then I'mm all for it.

Good chance you got junk in the system and it has taken out the IPR valve. Pull it and inspect.

Thanks Bismic. Just a quick question tho... If the IPR is indeed gunked up, is there an easy way to clean out HPOS? Logic suggests that if gunked up once, it will gunk up again. I got a brand new IPR valve from a friend for $80. That won't happen twice

No way to clean it out that I have ever heard. It doesn't take much to restrict the valve screen and cause damage. It could very well be a one-time thing (assuming that is your issue).
