Well here we are...never even fathomed this a few months ago...the cowls came with the truck so I saved as much of the original as I could and cut the patches to fit...dont laugh too hard...I am good at grinding!! the whole side was flappin in the wind so I have to say I am damn happy!!

Consider using a flanging tool next time as it is way stronger than butt welding panels. It also saves a ton of work.

 

Nothing wrong with that. Beads could be smaller, but you can grind it down. Just don't overheat the metal by grinding too long.

 

thanx guys...i love this place....I am sure I can slow down the wire speed a bit on the next one...by the time this ones done I should be pretty good at it...I will sure be buying a flange tool too!!

Looks like you got good penetration. That the main thing, you don't want you patches popping back off after you get them all pretty looking!

Looks good to me. I always say I am an OK welder but an excellent grinder. Go look at some of my welds on my build site if you wanna feel good about your welding skills

Congrats on pushing yourself to learn. The welds look good to me. What kind of a welder are you using? MIG ? Maybe just a little too much filler. Don't take it wrong, just trying to help. I assume these were all spot welds. You probably know to weld one spot then another somewhere not close to the last one to avoid heat build up. Use a wire brush on each spot to keep the metal clean for the next one. You could probably spot weld in between some of your existing ones to avoid gaps after you grind. I learned a trick about grinding down spot welds. Use a cut off wheel and carefully scuff off the dome of the spots with the edge of the cut off wheel. Saves alot of grinding and heat build up. Go gently or you'll cut into the panel. By the way did you ever get the pics of the hood nose ornament I sent you?
