Which Gears?

Which Gears?
Forum Members,
I am currently running a 3:55 gear on my 09 2wd 4.6 3V with 33's and its a dog. I don't drive much on the highway, just state roads and stop light to stop light driving. Need your opinions on which gear I should go with when I lift(6") my truck with 35's or possibly 37's. I was possibly leaning towards a 4:10 gear, what do you all think? Thanks in advance

the 33's and 35's increase the tire diameter by roughly 10%. the 37's are closer to 15%.
assuming a 235/75/r17 stock size
to keep the same effective gear ratio you should add at least the same amount to your gear.
3.55 x 1.10 = 3.90
3.55 x 1.15 = 4.08
in either case 4.10's get you pretty close to stock. Considering the added mass, i wouldnt be afraid to add a little gear.
4.30's would get you close to what 3.73's would be with stock tires.
4.56's would get you close to what 4.10's would be with stock tires.
i'd look hard at the 4.30's, if it were me.

it's hard to find (ie: impossible) to find a 4.30 gear for the reverse cut front 8.8 axle
a 4.56 gear is damn near perfect for a 35" tire. 4.10 gears aren't enough of a change from 3.55 or 3.73 gears. You'll see the difference, but for $500-700 per axle, I would rather get more for my money.
alot of guys have gained MPG's in the city from 4.56 gears...not to mention they'll help you be in your powerband when cruising.

Go with 4.56!!! It is well worth it!! The best place to get the parts is from NATIONAL DRIVETRAIN: Differential, Drivetrain & Ring and Pinion Super Site do not forget to order the notched cross pin! It is needed for gears above 4.10.
