wonderful world of the worst trans aka e4od
i am having some trouble with my e4od first and reverse are the gears effected. reverse is slow to engage and sometimes first is as well. this is my first time with a computer controlled trans so i am wondering if it is the "normal" signs of trans failure or if it is the solenoids or computer messing up. the fluid is not burnt smelling or black i did a service on it 5k miles ago fluid level is good. any stories to share or advice would be helpful i am sure i am gonna have to put a new trans in it but thought i would check to see if there was something i was unaware of thanks

Well,
I'm by no means a tranny guy but my 94 E250 had some minor shift problems and was running weak, so I asked around and found out that the MLP sensor on the side of the tranny (Where the linkage is) could cause problems. I replaced it, then I dropped the pan and changed the filter, then I drained the fluid from the torque converter and put in new fluid.
It only took about and hour, cost around $70.00 for the fluid and the MLP sensor, and it really helped alot.

I didn't see what year you had. I have a 1991 F150 4WD with E4OD. The MLP had to be replaced. It was shifting so hard the trans was about to blow up. Seems there was a TSB out for the MLP. It would get wet inside and cause problems. BTW, I finally replaced the trans at 195,000 miles, only because I couldn't get it to stop leaking. Best trans I ever had.
Good Luck,
Freddie
