Tylus, do you need scans of any wiring diagrams from the shop manual for the wheel stuff?

thx for the offer Chris, but I've got them already. I went overboard and bought the Ford Repair DVD's that all the Dealerships use.

Currently I have a 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2008/2009, 2009/2010 (so 4 total). Back when they were available online (around 2006/2007) I didn't see the need, but now that Ford/Alldata are being info misers, I just figured it wouldn't hurt to just buy them

I will say though, that those Ford DVD's and even the Alldata Paid subscription aren't correct in the wiring areas. I found errors with both in my 06 F-150, my 08 Expy, my 09 Mustang...and last weekend with the 06 F-250. They diagrams are close, but for some reason Ford keeps changing colors and that info isn't getting updated

Got the wheel today actually. But my Expy is at the Dealership getting warranty work done, so I'm not pulling the airbag until I can afford downtime with the truck

also need to get the correct wheel puller.

It looks correct so far from the pictures I've seen on the internet. The fit test will be the final determination of course. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll let everyone know ASAP on the results

Cant wait to see if it is a direct swap. I recently updated my 04 f350 interior to a 08 HD. Seats, carpet, door panels ect. Steering wheel update would be the cherry on top.

08+ steering wheels are impossible without doing a complete column change from a 08+ vehicle. the steering shaft is different

I'm still waiting for some downtime to do the steering wheel test. new one is sitting on a shelf in the garage

Just came across this thread. I swapped a Navigator wheel into my '02 Excursion (that didn't have all the buttons) and then did a direct simple swap of a Lincoln Blackwood steering wheel into the '05. The '02 was a lot of work- had to change clocksprings and do some wiring to figure out what was what. The '05 was a simple swap- 10 mins at most, as the buttons on both wheels were identical as were the plugs and steering column shafts.

However, I've been on the lookout to add a wood wheel to my dad's F-450. I think the newer Navigator wheel is a different style and I didn't think a wood wheel existed, but I see your Expedition does have wood and has the same controls! What I thought was previously impossible now looks very possible!

BTW, your stock F-250 wheel looks in OUTSTANDING shape! My '05 Excursion has an identical wheel, and at 57k, it is starting to get shiny and lose the texture to it.

How was the wiring for the door panels? Did you do all the power doors locks, power windows, and mirrors? I ask because I just ordered 2008 power fold/telescoping towing mirrors and I was considering doing the 2008 door panels (mainly to avoid cutting in new switches for the mirrors and staying oem).

While I can't answer your main question, I did see that the '05-'07 trucks have a door panel switch pod with the newer style round switch in it. So you could swap in that panel and then get the new powerfold switch that you pull back on to fold the mirrors. Then you'd just have to find somewhere to put the telescoping switch. Wouldn't be completely OEM, but it would be cheaper than a full set of door panels.

I bought a beautiful reman leather/faux walnut steering wheel off ebay for $200. It's like driving a luxury car.

I hadn't forgotten about this. Just still haven't had enough time to support having the truck unavailable for 1 day...and I'm looking for a airbag to go with the F-150 steering wheel

I actually found your X swap thread and it gave me a ton of helpful hints/heads ups for when I do my swap.

The 99-07 wheel itself is decent, but the F-150/Expy variants are much better IMO. They are more ergonomically setup, and the button placement is more intuitive for operation without looking at.

Just curious, what is illogical about the buttons on the 05-07 wheel? Temp and fan right next to each other, volume above it, then all the cruise control buttons on the other side. Makes sense to me
