OK, that makes a bit more sense. I know some guys on here have towed some really heavy loads with their trucks on the rear hitch, but I really tend to favor the 5th wheel setup when you get into the 10K and over range. I'd go over everything with a fine-tooth comb (tires, bearings, esp. the trailer brakes) and I don't know if you have much wiggle room as far as how you can position the truck on your trailer or not (depends on the trailer length) which will affect the stability.
I'd schedule the tow for when you have nice, dry roads. I just towed a parts-car Odyssey "mini"-van on my Demco tow dolly behind by '79 K20 4x4 pickup (that I am getting ready to sell since buying the F350), and wow was it a bit scary. My dolly is good for small cars and doesn't have its own brakes. The Odyssey is over 4K lbs. I couldn't go over 50mph w/o things getting squirrelly, and the load was pushing my truck sideways when I braked. It was only about 20 miles that I had to tow it, but I don't think I'll do that again. I seriously think that I may have lost control if I had done it on wet roads based upon how it felt.
Good luck and let us know how things turn out. You got a heck of deal on that beast! I paid a lot more for mine, but it's a SRW (I live in town so the dually was completely out of the question due to the extra width).

well did a trial run with the trailer
well here's another project .drove 80 miles with that on back. Was a bit hairy at times but once on the highway she rode good at 65 mph. had it floored going up steep inclines.
the october 500 mile trip each way should be fun.
If i was married i wouldn't be able to have my own junkyard at home!!!!!!

anyway i was working on brake lines. I'm convinced ford does **** on purpose to be difficult. brake flare nuts are all different sizes.
the transfer case has pto plate on it and it's an auto. i never saw that before. i wonder how it works. neutral??? what trans fluid does it take im thinking its a c6

What is a ptoon?
Ford didn't make a Crew Cab Dually 4x4, in these vintage trucks, so what you have there is a SRW 4x4 that was converted to a Dually. Most of these trucks were done by a conversion company like Centurion, or Centurios. Yours appears to be some kind of conversion as well. There will be Dually Spacers on the front and rear axles, most were made by Arrowcraft.
Great deal for the money, Congrats!
