Thought about starting a new thread, but this is a pretty dead forum right now. I might be getting an offer from a company moving to Murfreesboro. I've been through the area on my way to somewhere else. Usually the Ocoee.

I have no problems leaving the Memphis area. I definitely would like a new job. I've been trying to move to the Knoxville area. Will I be happy with "settling" for Murfreesboro? I've been in the Spring Hill area some. That seems like enough mountains.

Mboro isn't a bad area. Alicia and I still go there rather frequently (in fact, just today) from Franklin.

Just remember staying in Henry Horton SP years ago on the way to the Smokies. And I think the campground has just been reworked. What kind of canoeing/kayaking can be had on the Duck River?

Maybe someone else will chime on in on this and say. That isn't my thing, so I have no idea what it's like.

Oh no. Murfreesboro traffic is nothing like Nashville. It has grown, quite a bit and there is more traffic compared to when I went to college at MTSU, but I would rather deal with Mboro traffic then Nashville traffic. Alicia likes dealing with Mboro traffic compared to Nashville and she works in the Polk building in Nashville.

It starts at 4:30, it is bad, it was such a nice place before it boomed.

The only thing I ever had to worry about at 4:30 in the morning in Mboro is the stupid joggers that are out while it's still dark out in dark clothes. Now there are a few people out driving, but there are a lot more driving out in Nashville at that time then in Mboro.

Now, maybe I'm skewed in my perceptions, because I grew up in Dallas and at 3 in the morning down there it seems like rush hour compared to Nashville and especially compared to Mboro (heaven help you if you ever find yourself in Atlanta, I would rather have Dallas traffic then that).

When during the day would this traffic happen? Where in town? Just in case I get an interview and can see for myself what it would look like. And maybe how close this would be to the Beretta Firearms company that is seeking me?

Memphis traffic is bad at specific times. But there's not much going on here compared to better places to live. I've in the Atlanta traffic. Not sure I've been in any worse than Gatlinburg on a holiday weekend. Sometimes the further you get from the ratrace, the closer you get!

I lived near the Square, even the main roads were bad, there are red lights 50 feet apart, stop and go, it's the afternoons that got to me, I had moved there back in 2002, it wasn't bad back then, but it grew, I remember there were only 2 interstate exits, well, there are 4 or 5 now.
Atlanta, that interstate system is hell, reminds me of Nashville, you need to drive a minimum of 30 over the posted limit or get run over.

Glenn, I have lived in Murfreesboro since 02' I live on the west side. Traffic to me is not bad at all. Now are there areas to avoid? Absolutely. There are not many places here you cant take an alternate. It is a growing city coupled with having the largest Undergrad university in the state. It is not far from Nashville but far enough. Atlanta is a 3 hr drive. Knoxville/Smokies 2.5 hrs. PM me if you come in one weekend. I work quite a bit. If Im off I wouldnt care to meet you. IF I am not mistaken Beretta is on the southside of M'boro. The worst traffic here is at the intersection of Broad Street and Memorial/Old Fort Parkway. The state is building an overpass. Here again there are work arounds.

I appreciate all who answered this. Just got through with the phone interview. Don't think its going past that. I talked with a HR rep and department supervisor for quite a few minutes before realizing I was talking to Barrett Firearms, not Beretta Firearms. I wonder if anybody else has gotten the company name wrong in an interview! I looked back over the email I got from the headhunter and he started talking about Beretta and then switched to Barrett and I didn't pick up on it!

And I was looking forward to moving to M'boro!

Sorry to see that you are probably not moving to the Boro. I have recently had my 40"th anniversary of living here. I live here by choice not by chance. In the six neighborhoods in my area you rarely see any homes for sale. We are all blessed with great neighbors that generally leave each other alone yet if you need a hand with something you can find more help than you need in 2 minutes. It is virtually crime free in our area and we all look out for each other and each others kids. The Boro is large enough that we have a few pockets to avoid that have a little bit of "gang" activity, yet they tend to stay in their own ares as they have already learned that venturing out is not wise and that if and when they venture out they have found out that we have them outgunned.

If anybody knows of a machinist position in M'boro, let me know. We have at least killing in Memphis a day. Lucky to only have one. Local news hardly reports on burglary, robbery, or rape anymore. Bartlett is a very safe, law abiding suburb. But I have to drive through and work in a very bad section of Memphis.

Any east TN jobs would be great as well. But I just got a ZipRecruiter ad for a CNC machinist job with a lot of requirements that is starting at $12.50/hr. I made that over 20 years ago. I don't know how anybody can live in east TN for that money.

Wake up Middle Tennessee. I have not been checking in here very often. I am going to try and do a little bit better.
