Truck starts with the key in the run position
2000 F350 7.3
Starter went out last December, replaced it. About a month ago the starter would work but not plunge. This would happen intermitently, so it worked. Picked up another starter and put it on the bench. Yesterday I went to start the truck and it started in the key on position.
I then replaced the starter....same thing. Replaced the ignition switch......same thing. Replaced the starter selenoid......same thing.
What is left, key assembly? The key assembly seems to look ok as I took it apart tonight.

The only relay that I am aware of is the Selenoid on the passenger side fender wall, and that I replaced yesterday. Could it be wired wrong, certainly, as the directions were not for this truck, but it was for the truck. I wired per my Chilton book. The results were the same as the first one.
If some one knows of a relay that I do not know about chime in.

That is one of the first things that crossed my mind, because this happened on the first replacement starter, then the second. This is simple though, there is a large and a small post, a large (power) and small wire. This would be hard to mix up.

Found the problem
We started looking at the wiring diagrams and checking out everything associated with the starter.
Climbed underneath and pulled the plug on the trany PRNDL and it had an oily residue in the electrical connection. (Blew the high pressure oil pump last year). Pull off the prndl and happened to break it in the process......looked inside and it looked bad. Replaced it starts geat, but nneeds constant adjustments. I will now carry a 5/16 wrench until I get that fine tuned.......any shortcut or advice on that adjustment?
