Does anyone know of the Y-pipe fix? I was thinking of using some exhaust springs?

On my y pipe I used springs for a Chevy collector. But I also welded the y pipe collector flange to the y pipe after it was installed for a couple months. It's good no leaks yet.

Don't have a pic of the welded flange on file yet. I can get one here soon tho

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. I just bought some springs from the auto parts store from the "Help" section. I will put these on tonight.

The issue is that the bell on the y pipe gets really hot, than the bolts basically pull the flange onto the bell straitening it out. Welding the flange to the y pipe makes it keep the shape. If get a pic later today you will be able to see how much mine pulled the flange through the bell before I actually welded it. Compare it to the pic of when I first installed them

Ok, is the weld on the header or Y-pipe flange? Once I install the springs, I will take it to a muffler shop and get it welded.

Now keep in mind these are headers painted with high temp paint and not ceramic coated.

Here in te last pic u can see how I let it pull te flange almost too far befor I welded. But it doesn't leak. So it's good.

The welded set? Is that a set after exchange for the improved version, or a set from before an exchange? My original set went further than that with the collector collars touching. But the new set is holding shape fine.

It's been almost a year since I installed the new bulletproof headers, so I thought I'd drop a quick update. After one initial re-tightening, there have been no more leaks. So, it looks like the new design works.

Getting Heddman to make it right was a much bigger headache than it should have been. But at this point, unless other people are still having problems, I can now recommend the updated version of these headers without reservation.

I just wanted to say thanks for the updates...it's nice when you can read through the ups and downs of a product and have some closure when you're done reading.

Sorry guys, no selling in the tech forums

I myself find that, even without driving it much, they have definitely not leaked yet.

I still have to replace the very-out-of-line driver's side with the (second) replacement.

I just ordered a set of these Hedman headers from Summit and I would like to know if the bolts (for the head and Y pipe) that came with it are good enough or do I need to buy Stage 8 fasteners?

Can't wait to get these installed and not have to listen to the exhaust leak due to broken studs.

Found an exhaust shop locally that will install these headers for $250 (too good to be true right?)..........I have a feeling he will ask for me money after fighting with the broken studs.
