2001 F350 201000 miles spins over but no start

Ok guys, this morning I jump in the old girl, she fires right up. Then I back up to turn around and she dies. When I attempt to restart her, she just spins over fairly quickly with no firing. I check the oil level and she is a little low, so I add about a quart and try again. Still she will spin but not fire. This time there are no codes. I am in South Texas near Victoria.

Any ideas wher to start my journey?

Ted

I have are CPS in the glove box. I will start with fuses this evening. CPS does have 120,000 on it. It will be a job for tomorrow. Work gets in the way of adventure.

Do you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key to first position?

Brother Les, that probably should be the first thing, then fuses, then CPS. I is not throwing a code therefore the fuel pump is probably a great place to start.

What are you using to read the codes. A standard OBDII reader does not work on these trucks.

When it died, was it like it was fuel starved (sputter?) or like a flip of the switch shut off?

I am using my diablo tuner which has been useful in scanning codes in the past. It just died. I was backing up slowly almost idling when I hit the brake to stop an change gears it just quit. To the best of my recollection.

Could possibly be the fuel bowl heater shorted out and popped the #30 fuse, which also kills power to the PCM. She'll spin but not fire with those conditions. If #30 is popped, first unplug the fuel bowl heater (white plug IIRC on the back lower side of the fuel bowl), replace the fuse, and you're set.

Ok guys! I am back home early! I check fuel pump it is humming away. Then I check #30 fuse and it is not blown. Then I get idea after reseating the fuse to try to start and she spins like mad and fires off. I am at a loss now. She is running and all very smoothly. No SES light or anything else. I am currently letting her run for a little bit. This is a little perplexing. I have never experienced such an event.

Shut it off and she fires right back up. I will have to check it again in the morning. It does sound like I have a little knock in the motor lately though.

I will keep everyone informed of the next few issues I have.

Today I jump in and fire the old truck up and she doesn't give me a hint there was ever an issue. So I have a spare CPS ready for the next time this occurs. Thanks for all the input.
