new pcm/tcm update?

took my truck into the dealer to get my first free oil change at 6404 miles (but had to pay $48 for DEF ) I reported to them funny shifting still in 3rd gear even after getting it reflashed to fix the harsh 4th to 5th gear shift (which it did fix) a month ago. i told the tech that in 3rd gear the truck acts like it wants to shift into 4th (drops 100-150 rpms) but then stays in 3rd for a couple more seconds, finally drops rpms again and shifts to 4th. nothing about it is harsh, the computer just acts like it is undecided when it wants to shift. funny thing is the first time i reported this, he said everything was normal. now that i reported it again a month later, "o now there is a new update out" but all in all he said that there is a new tcm pcm flash that just came out that takes 2-3 hours that is supposed to fix most of the reported shifting issues people are having. i havent heard of anything out like this on this forum so i thought i would post this thread for others that are still having issues with their shifting and didnt know about the newer update like myself. also i dont know any of the update numbers or any of that, just that one recently came out.

I have several of those shifting problems, I figured I would just have to live with it until warranty ran out so I could get a programmer and do it myself. I see a trip to the dealer later this week when I get back home.

^^ are you having the same 3rd gear odd shifting that i described above? if u are, thats the first (other then me) having the issue. i got the truck reflashed, took 3 hours and it did not fix the problem. now the transmission tech is going to be looking at it.

First DEF fill is free, I just did and so did a friend. Dealer says it's covered by Ford, so go back and get a refund.

Blue Oval... He's probably talking about TSB 11-7-10,

It involves replacing three solenoids in the transmission and a reflash, or just a reflash depending on the build date.

Hope this helps...

ISSUE:
Some 2011 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.7L engines and 6R140 transmission may exhibit a 2-3 shift flare and/or malfunction indicator light (MIL) on with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0733 and/or delayed reverse engagement, with a build date on or before 4/11/2011. Symptoms may be more evident or seem worse after an extended soak.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Inspect vehicle build date.
If vehicle build date is on or before 11/19/2010, proceed to Step 2
If vehicle build date is between 11/20/2010 and 4/11/2011, solenoid replacement is not necessary, proceed to Step 3.
Replace the three (3) normally high solenoids. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01B. Proceed to Step 3.
Remove solenoids in-vehicle, identify the service band required for LPC, C35R/SSB, C456/SSE solenoids. Do not remove the main control.
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) and the transmission control module (TCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 73.02 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.5 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at Buy Motorcraft Parts Online | Official Motorcraft Auto Parts Site | FordParts.com.
NOTE: PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

I have what I call delayed shift from 2 to 3 in the morning. It's like it doesn't want to shift until I let off a bit, or unless I push down further so it revs high enough to shift. I was considering, or thinking, that's what they mean by 'flares" because the engine keeps revving up and won't want to shift out of 2nd.

I also have these three:
Harsh/bumpy transmission upshifts/downshifts
Delayed/harsh transmission engagement feel between R-D and D-R shifts
Transmission gear hunting during speed control operation when climbing grades or climbing hills.

I bought my truck in July 2010 and it was on the lot for a month before I bought it. It already had the reflash but these still seem to be what my truck experiences.

No I meant the very first reflash, for the HP and TQ increases, but it also had some other fixes. That was almost 6 months ago or more.

My truck has been shifting funny from 2nd to 3rd since new. I tried to capture it on video as it only does it while the transmission is cold. Is this the same problem as referred to earlier in this post? If you notice, the rpm's jump when it tries to shift from 2nd to 3rd and drops back to 1st before starting the shift cycle again. Will this latest flash fix this?

YES... Take it to the dealer and tell them you want the TSB applied. It will shift like a different truck....

Hi to all,
6400 miles on my 350 SBCC and it went to dealer for first oil change and DEF service, 168.00 later and lighter I was on my way. Took 4 gals. of DEF. I ordered my truck in Nov. and picked it up in Jan. I never received a coupon for the first service so I had to pay. Thanks Ford as this #6 I have owned and purchased at this dealer.

I also had 11-4-21 installed mostly for the throttle tip in, was very noticeable using my hand controls. So far it feels good and shifts great but I never really had issues like some are. Heading out tomorrow with the Cyclone (about 12K) for 1000 miles over the next week. I'll let you know how it goes, I'm sure it's going to be a blast.

Mark
