Thinking about getting a 2004-2007

I had an '05 that I traded on my '11. I ordered the '05 and had it since it was new. It was an outstanding truck. The only two issues I had with it were a failed FICM and an STC fitting that had to be replaced. Both were fixed under warranty and I never had another problem. I routinely got 14-15 MPG around town and was in the 19-21 MPG range on the interstate. I used Diesel Kleen in every tank....grey bottle in warm months and white bottle in the winter.
Drop down to the 6.0 forum (Or I can move this thread there if you'd like) and you can get some better answers on this. Plenty of reading to be done on these trucks down there.

Best years of the 6.0 are IMO anyway. 07,06,03,05,04 again that's my opinion. My truck is a early 04 which is basicly a 03. The actual 04's had every problem known to the 6.0. I would steer clear of that year. Also don't believe all you hear about the 6.0. It's a really impressive motor, you just have to stay in top of your maintenance. And use only motorcraft filters and it will take care of ya for many years.

I like 2003-2007 6.0's
They will all eventually have problems no matter what you have or drive.
It all depends on how it was used and taken care off.
Best thing you can do is bring a Scangauge II and watch ECT VS EOT, ICP and IPR readings, and possibly FICM voltage.
My 06 has had many problems, the 03's are work had FAR less and worked twice as hard as mine.
If you do buy it, even after checking out the temps and all, take it to a well known Ford dealership that knows 6.0's or a independent shop that is well known for 6.0's and have them go over everything also, a few hundred or less can save you BIG $
Use common sense when going over it, look for leaks, odd sounds, bucking or jerking, ask for maint receipts, get a Carfax/Oasis.
Make sure the truck is dead cold(sat for 24hrs atleast) See how it starts, look for smoke, how fast it cranks(batts)
Don't settle for the first one you find either look at 2 or 3 and see what you like best.
I personally like the 05s+ because of the interior and the front ends they look way better than the 04's and older(Just my opinion)
Goodluck

IMO 03s were the best year it just seems to me as years went by the so called upgrades/changes ended up having more problems and issues
But I would buy any 6.0 before any 6.4 PS the 6.4 sounds expensive to fix
I think depending on year you buy give it some TLC and you will have a great truck for years to come
But doesnt matter what you buy anything can Break. The Good thing is theres plenty of info on here and Members help to get pretty much anything fixed
Best thing you can do is get a scangauge and use it when your testdriving these trucks study up and know what to watch for. So study up and use these so called weakness to swing a deal

I agree, but that is based purely on the extra features
better front suspension
dash
all the "lessons learned" from the 03-05 trucks
Inst. Cluster
they really are all the same thing. Trust me though, coming from your F-150, you will notice the lack of features the SD has vs. the F-150. Ford neglected the SD in the ammenities department until 2008 IMO.

I am looking at the Harley's and King Ranch's right now. Right now I am in the top of the line King Ranch and realize the options would be less in the 250 but also I am getting a bigger truck and can add most of the stuff to it. I am not even looking at the 2008 to 2010 body style just because I don't like the style and haven't heard much about the 6.4L.
