Question wax on plastic

I did a search in the "appearance" section and didn't see this asked before, please let me know if someone already asked. I have an '02 Ranger XLT 4dr 4x4. Recently, I got some wax on the plastic moldings around the wheel wells and on the door handle. I thought that after a some rain and a few washes it would go away but it didn't. What would take it off well?

wax on plastic

hey,

have that happen to me all the time I use some Eagle One spray on wax, and rub it out with a cloth, as long as the wax hasn't sat for a while it comes right out.. In another post: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...hreadid=102741

some one talked about using warm smooth peanut butter to get it off...

thanks! I just read the thread about peanut butter. I think I'll try the other methods suggested there first, then if it comes to it, I'll give the peanut butter a try!

I've recently found the cure for wax stained or just plain faded black trim. Your not going to believe this, but I just painted the trim. Plain old cheap flat black spray paint from Wal-Mart. It dries the perfect color and unless you create any runs in the paint you can't even tell the difference. My grill was hopelessly faded, or so I thought. Now it looks brand new. Wax stains had my tailgate handle and bumper trim looking like crap. Now it good as new. Same for the trim around the rear window. Just be careful about masking off around the paint job! Also, spray paint runs very easily if you apply too much.

Try using Dawn dishwashing liquid! This stuff will take the wax off, so be carefull not to get on your newly waxed paint.

Also, If you rub a light coat of WD40 on your plastic trim, prior to waxing, it will help prevent the wax from sticking to the trim. The WD40 will not harm your trim or paint.

Good Luck.

The best product that i have found is called Back To Black. It works really well at getting the plastic trim back to their original color. It is available at alot of autoparts chains. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

It works on all colors.

Just tried the peanut butter method of wax removal, worked well, but I didn't know if I should have used creamy or the crunchy type.

Meguries makes a marine cleaner for boats. Works great and will not run on your body panels when it rains. It is not boat wax but the marine cleaner, the stuff to clean the grunge off the side of the boat.

3M also makes an excellent boat cleaner/wax, I've used on my boat for the last 5 years. I would be a little scared to use on paint because of the abrasives this product contains on clear coat.
If it doesn't scratch finish it would be an excellent choice.
I may try on wife's car to see if it is safe for my truck!!!!

I may have not responed correctly, but I would use the meguires marine cleaner on the trim to get the wax off. I would never use anything but meguires auto products on paint. The gold class series works great. I use a 3M soft compound first then go to meguires no.7 show car glaze then use the gold class wax to finish off the job. It takes a while but the shine lasts for every as long as you use the quick detailer after you wash. My truck has had a wet look ever since I've done that back in December.
