88 fuel problem

Just installed new fuel pump and relay, there are 2 parts inline that i cant find replacement parts for, and not really sure what the one is. i have seen other posts and it looks like a valve selector switch. ( it only has one fuel tank) and on what looks like a pump there are no parts listed to replace it.

any help to identify / fix problem

truck has zero fuel pressure.

The first image is the dual function reservoir and the second is the high pressure fuel pump. Usually the DFR has 2 supply lines, 1 from each tank on the aft side and there would also be 2 return lines for a total of 4 on the back. Then there would be 2 lines on the front side , 1 for pressure and 1 for return. So, the DFR has 2 functions, it hydromechanically switches supply from either tank depending on which one has pressure and it has a small reservoir which keeps supply flowing if the lift pumps loose their supply. The high pressure pump keeps the fuel pressure to the rail high enough to keep the injectors fed, there is a fuel pressure regulator which keeps the pressure in limits.

The first image is NOT a dual function reservoir or fuel switch.
It is the fuel system reservoir with NO moving parts.
It should be good for the life of the truck but if filled with junk from the tank the bottom cap may be screwed off to clean it. But if you do take the cap off it is hard to get the cap back on without it leaking and the "O" ring can not be bough by its self. You would have to buy a fuel filter for a 1986 Bronco II and use the "O" ring and file the filter in the trash.

This reservoir of the high pressure fuel pump is needed to keep the engine from surging and cutting out on hills.

The other item as said above is the high pressure fuel pump.

A photo of the single tank fuel system reservoir:

truck has zero fuel pressure.
The first pic is of a fuel reservoir. If you truck has only 1 factory fuel tank, then it is a Single Function Reservoir. Its only purpose is to keep fuel going to the high pressure pump so your engine don't starve for fuel.

The Ford base part number for the SFR is 9K044.

Here is the part number for the SFR that you will need for your truck. F0TZ-9K044-A. Here is a link for the SFR for sell on eBay - 9k044 | eBay

If you have duel tanks then the part number 5Rangers posted will be what you need.

X2 on what 5Rangers said in the above post, the second pic is your high pressure fuel pump. I would check it first if you have zero fuel pressure. You should be able to hear it kick on and run for about 4-5 seconds to build pressure when you first turn the key to the run position before starting your truck.

Hope this helps.

If the fuel pump runs for "4-5 seconds" you have a bad EEC computer.

The pump should only run for one second and quit and will not run long enough to build pressure if the fuel lines are dry. You may have to turn the key on and off three or four times to get the pressure up to 32 PSI pressure before starting the engine.

1987 F150 EFI 4.9 77k unconfirmed

Just bought truck. Fuel guage not working. Runs well, but has had a couple instances when it did not want to start, but always eventually has, so far. Did tune up. Tank strap needed replacement, so decided to do sending unit at same time. Saw what looked like some kind of canister filter and a pump along the frame, before the in-line fuel filter. Not being sure what the canister with fuel lines going in/out was, I took pics and stopped into half dozen auto parts stores, and Ford, to see what I could learn about it. The closest I got was Ford who brought up a picture, but had no clue what it was or what it did. In their defense, it's not a common replacement part. But for Ford not to produce an answer....?

This is where I found the answer, and then some. THANK YOU!

Next time I stop back by those stores I can let them know what the part is, how it works, what it does, how much it cost and where they can find it, just in case they run across it again. Oh, and most importantly, I will let them know about this site.

Well, it an ancient fuel system by todays standards, most all Ford shops won't even work on these trucks. Additionally, very few have parts manuals for them. So, your best bet for finding parts are these F150 forums and research the internet, or, if your willing to risk it, go to a junkyard. I was skeptical of the junkyards at first, but it has proven to be a treasure trove of cheap parts.

Would it be possible to swap it with a newer single in single out filter since i can not find this part in any store?
