fuel lines going to and from tank?

Are the fuel lines (both going and return) that hook up to the gas tank supposed to be rubber hose with just hose clamps holding them on the metal fuel line? I have a leak right where the hose is clamped on the fuel line that goes to the fuel filter and was wondering where to get them or what the best fix for itwould be?

Should not be any hose clamps, sounds like a PO cut off the OEM fittings. If you can't find the fittings at a retail shop maybe try to salvage the lines from a JY truck.

does anyone have pictures of the proper fuel lines from the sending unit to where the metal fuel lines begin? I dont know if they are flared fittings, compression, or what.

thanks Now I just need to crawl under the truck and look closer to see if they cut the end of the metal line off. Hopfefully not so I can just buy the poly line and fittings.

If it were me, I would probably just use rubber fuel line and hose clamps.

The fancy factory connectors allowed for increased speed of assembly in the factory (just snap into place) and nothing more. You are not going to get any worse (or better) fuel flow using standard fuel line.

Just ensure a proper job is done (no jury-rigging) and there are no leaks.

Thats the problem i am having now. there is a rubber hose connected to the sending unit with a hose clamp and then there are two hose clamps that connect the hose to the metal line that leads to the filter. its leaking with two hose clamps already on it.

Is the tube perhaps cracked? Have you investigated WHY it's leaking?

doesnt seem to be cracked. it is leaking out the end of the hose passed 2 hose clamps. I have had this truck for 2 years but I would like to get it a little more worry free as far as gas leaks are concerned.

Well, if it were mine, I'd take it apart and look at it and see why it's leaking and what can be done differently. Correctly installed, it shouldn't leak.

Any time you use hoses in this system they must be Fuel Injection hose and not just fuel line hoses.
Any time you put a fuel hose onto a metal line the line must be bowed out some with a double flaring tool.
You must also use Fuel Injecting Hose clamps.

Finally I have a day off so I could look at the truck closer. The main feed line still has the large connector at the sending unit, but then someone used just normal fuel line. Upon further investigation all the hoses have been changed to normal fuel line so here is the plan. I am going to remove the bed since I have a rust free bed to put on it, then I will make sure of the size of all the fuel hose ( looks like all is 3/8 right now). I will order me a flaring set and either get the fuel injection hose and clamps or I may go ahead and get the flare style fittings and hard line it back to the sending unit just to make it look good. To do this I will have to see if the fuel repair lines with the proper connectors will work to hook up to the sending unit and hopfully not have to buy a new sending unit to boot. I also was wondering about the AN style fittings, are these just for hoses and if so I might try that route. It will be a decent little project to put together and I have never flared any line so I will have to practice a bit. Let me know you thoughts cause I want it to be right.
