One of the options from the States is a LHS door. This van had a slimline door fitted on the left in the rear corner. They really are excellent value.

Heres their link http://aussiespecuscaravans.blogspot.com/ happy trails.

Cool, wasn't sure - I know there are a few companies that are converting them with doors on the left/240V/gas systems that meet our regulations etc.

Living in the states, it is amazing how much cheaper all this kind of stuff is. My parental unit (grey nomads) bought a new Winnebago in Aus last year - about 23' in length on a small Iveco chassis. You could get a new 40' bus style RV with a Cummins converted to RHD and shipped to Aus for the same money... and that is well before you get into the used models...

Car trailer:

My son's Xtrail getting trailered to Sydney for a recond engine exchange

I sort of made the trip 'worthwhile' by bringing a car back for my wife (sorry NOT a Ford)

Brain B, the F250 is going to cope with that small caravan and that MASSIVE telescope easily!
If you're ever using it at Honeysuckle Creek or Tidbinbilla Tracking Station in the ACT please let me know!

No worries.

The van is heavier than it looks. It's around 3tonne with the batteries
and solar panels added since the photo was taken.

The turbo landcruiser was making hard work of climbing hills with it
on, looking forwards to effortless towing with the 250.

BrianB, to effortly tow 3 tonnes your F250 will need some 'correction' from the Ford Australia factory spec if you haven't already made them!
I recommend starting a thread 'F250 set up for towing 3 ton'. With my truck's current set up I'd rate it as effortly towing 2.5 ton where 'effortless' means holdiing 110kmh up any Freeway grade between Melboune & Sydney. My towing efforts on the w/e I coped some heavy turbo compressor surge which I'm hoping to fix up with the WW2 upgrade.

Simon,
The previous owner has done some mods already.

He used the Evolution tuner to reprogram it to the towing setting.
He included the tuner when he sold me the truck.

It has 4" exhaust system, an after market air intake, I think it's a K&N,
and has had something changed in the turbo. Don't know what the something was, I expect the turbine was replaced.

I am planning on having the transmission upgraded before I do any
serious towing.

I have a bypass oil filter kit ready to go on and there is a fuel manager fuel filter on it's way.

The next item on the list is gauges.
Going to fit EGT, oil pressure and transmission temp gauges.

Also planning the HPX line and the EBPV elimination.

Any other tips appreciated.

AUSSIEWIDE

G'day Fellas,

This is what I currently drag around. It's a 23' inside 24.5' body length Aussiewide Bundera Gypsy. It's a rough Roader with a 3.5t Simplicity Full Load Sharing Independent Suspension. 3 x 95ltr Water Tanks (I added the 3rd one), I added 4 x 85W Solar Panels, Generator etc.
I put 16" Dynamic Steel Rims on it and BFG Tyres.
All up fully laden for isolated running she weights in at around 3.4t.
The truck fully laden with camping gear, recovery gear, spares, long range tank full etc comes in at around 4.6t.
So I'm around 8t and the mods & Upgrades done to the truck handle it all very well .

Cheers,
Reg & Liz

Looks great Reg! I remember your rims are 16x10's, what tyres are you running and do you know the offset of the rims?

G'day Simon,

The pics with the Allied Thunder 16 x 10" Rims are not what I have now.

I wanted to go to a more commonly available tyre size to cover my *** in isolated country. I wanted to go down to 285 75R 16 E tyres and most of the tyre makers run that size on 7" to 9.5" Rims with the optimum being 8".
305 tyres will also mostly go on 8" Rims as will 295 Tyres.
The 8"Rim is a more versatile size rim.
I sold those 10" Rims to Andy down in Tassie and they suit his needs and look well suited to his tray back truck.

I'm not sure but I think they had a 4.5" Back Space and a Zero Offset.

The other pics are with the new rims: Allied Black Mumba 8" rims with Zero Offset.
I still have the Toyo Open Country AT 305 75R 16 tyre on the new rims as I've done nearly 55K pretty rugged Ks on them so far and I reckon I'll get another 15K out of them.
I have fitted my own large capacity onboard compressor, so I analy change tyre pressures to suit loads and terrain. I also rotate regularly.

I would very much like to fit 295 75R 16 tyres, but they are near impossible to get out here in load rage 'E' and it is an odd size.

You can get plenty 295s in load rage 'D' in most makes, but 'E' .

Cheers,
Reg

Thanks Reg. I'll keep that in mind. Reckon I'll go for 16x8 as per your experience.

Mal, nice looking unit and slide-on!

Also forgot to comment on Patchy's Red truck & canopy - love the colour, and your truck's transmission is never going to struggle with your camper.

Great pics all, keep them coming!

Reg, does that 4.6t include tongue weight?

Looks like fun! Just curious, what model Northstar is that? I am thinking of getting one. What are your thoughts on it?

How do you find the 315's compare to the smaller tyres for off-road? I am looking at gettting a new set (I have 18" Alcoa rims), and was worried that anything wider than a 285 would affect my fuel economy.
