not fully starting or running

I'm about one month and one tank of gas past a carb rebuild. When I try to start her up, she runs just enough to burn up the fuel in the bowl (about 2 engine revolutions) and she dies right out before the crank stops spinning. If I use ether, I can keep her running for a bit longer, and she may even run for 5 minutes off a single shot.

There are no major vacumme leaks, the timing is dead on, the float in the carb isn't stuck (if I remove the screw, there is no gas spill till I rock the truck), and I'm running a new fuel filter. Plugs & wires are less then two years old. The tank was at (or near) empty when I first noticed the problem. and it came after a full throttle take off. She was running perfectly before this.

I'm stuck for an answer, and any help is greatly appreciated.
