302 to 351

i got a 302 in my F150, and i just pulled out a 351 out of my old parts truck. im rebuilding it then dropping it in my F150. what ALL has to be done for this swap? also keep in mind the 302 has MAF, and 351 is SD.

I am not 100% sure on what all is needed. Yet try the search function. This topic has been covered a lot. I know you will need a 351W fly wheel/flex plate. Also you will need the 351W lower intake if the SD and MAF are different. Not sure if they are. I'm sure someone will correct me. Most everything should fit. You will probably need a new serpentine belt, exhaust manifolds (I think for better fitment), Y pipe. Just a few things off the top of my head.

Modify your existing y-pipe or use one for the 5.8L engine. The manifold angle as well as overall width are different between the 5.0 and 5.8L engine.

I've done this swap, if you are swapping a complete 5.0 EFI for a complete 5.8 EFI, you have most of what you need already. I'm not sure what the confusion is about MAF and SD is, that part is native to the truck, not the engine. If you have a later MAF truck you might get away without having to swap the ECM to a compatable 5.8 unit, but I wouldn't take the chance. The injector firing order is different between the two, the easiest way to fix it is to swap ECMs. A SD truck needs the ECM swapped for sure.
Almost nothing swaps between a 5.0 and a 5.8 except the heads and front accessories. Both the upper and lower intakes are different between the two. Not that all that matters, if your 5.8 is complete.
The exhaust Y pipe will have to come from the 5.8 truck. Your cooling system hoses will hook up. The connection behind the bellhousing will connect to either engine harness. Everything from the throttle body outward in the intake system will swap.
All you need is the right parts to mate to your transmission, which depends on if your manual or auto or vice versa, and you are ready to go.

What year are your trucks? The truck that had the 5.0 you will need to tie up the knock sensor to the fuel line the 5.8 will not have a place to thread that in. I did this to my 94 F-150 I took a 1994 ford lightning motor and put that in my truck

the F150, which the 351 will be going into is a 1994. the F250 which the 351 will be coming out of is a 1993.

Are they both auto transmissions? Ford changed the electronics and some internal things in 1994 i believe on the E4OD. Something to keep in mind as it may cause shifting errors.

Actually no it isn't, from 1994 on both motors used the same firing order, and a MAF 5.0 computer will run a stock or lightly modified 5.8 no problem at all. DO NOT use any wiring from the donor vehicle in this swap, strip all electrical off the 5.8 and connect it to the 5.0 harness... everything will connect except the knock sensor and for that you can simply leave the connector hanging. You can also strip the smog(air injection) system off the 5.8 unless you have smog tests in your area of course, it's quite the mess of hoses and valves on the HD truck and eliminating it won't impact engine operation or emissions for that matter after the engine is at operating temperature. You will need to retain the TAB and TAD solenoids next to the coil and keep them electrically connected, but the vacuum lines attached can be removed and/or plugged. The EGR systems should remain intact however, it cannot be eliminated without setting the check engine light and it actually helps improve milage anyway.

Me too buddy, me too.

I'm surprised at the price, a few months ago the cheapest 302 was 6 grand.

Just asking but.... Why not rebuild the 302 to 347? That's my plan. Unless you're dropping in a swap on the cheap there's no benefit to having the extra 4 cubes. If you're rebuilding anyway you'r looking at less than 2 grand for a solid 347 to build on.
JEGS High Performance

Summit has a scat 347 kit and sealed power rebuild kit for about $1000 combined. EH heads and intake and you have a 350 hp 302/347 for under 2K.

347 would be what i want more than a 351. i just had the 351 and nothing to do with it. which kit from summit would you suggest?

im actually doing the exact same thing you are. . .takin parts truck motor, rebuilding, replacing. i stripped the motor down, gettin everythin cleaned, and re-usin everything. re-ring/bearing/gasket/seal kits are in the $250 range, the absolute cheapest thing to do if everything is in decent shape, and the cylinders dont need an overbore from scarring
