Angry E40D Transmission Woes

Hey guys I'm new to the site but I'm resorting to whatever I can nowadays

I have a 1993 F150 with automatic e40d transmission and it recently gave out on me so I found another one on ebay for 150 that a guy had taken out of a 1993 ford econoline van (my understanding is that they were compatible) so to further try and save myself some money me and my neighbor droped the old one ourselves and tried to install the new one and we got pretty far. It is a tight fit but I thought that would be expected.

Heres where we hit our stalemate, we have the trans lined up and about an inch from the engine but could not get it to slid the last inch no matter what we've tried we've tried jacking the engine at an angle as well as playing with the angles on the trans its self. we even have got to homemade bolts with a extra nut attached from the trans side attached to the engine but now they're on tight but the trans still wont move the last half inch or so, Im at a loss and exausted from trouble shooting it any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are the torque converter bolts lined up? It will NEVER pull up to the engine if they aren't lined up.. DON'T use bolts to try to force it home, you will damage the transmission pump if you put too much pressure on it...

What he says. However it sounds like the torque converter is not fully seated in the trans. You will probably need to pull it again and get the converter fully back.

there both right. look at your old one how far does the torque converter stick out. should not be flush with the case. play with it till you find the notch where it goes back in farther. then you will be able to do the one in truck.
