First Blackstone Oil Report
#16
I've had two reports done by Blackstone -on my 08 F250 45,000 miles, oil changes every at 5,000 miles - Both reports came back at about 3% fuel dilution - My Ford Service writer stated that "Ford" states the 6.4 can tolerate up to 6% - I run a lot of Bio - it is what is sold in Illinois - Two things I believe will help this - are DPF delete to get rid of regnes and avoid bio fuels. If I get a report any higher - I'd be very concerned - my driving is pretty much split between city / town and highway - just ran a 1,100 mile weekend trip down to TN - got 15.3 mpg total for trip - highway speeds did not exceeed 72 mph

Tell you what I do. I change oil at 5000. At each 1000 miles between changes I drain (fumoto) down to 1 quart low. Sometimes that takes more than a quart out. Then I add a quart of fresh. So far I've been through only one complete cycle. I had the oil tested at 2500 and 5000. Both were good clean reports. So, it's working. Cost me $17 a cycle. I have the drain and fill down to about 10 minutes, the hard part is reading that stupid dip stick. I started this when I got a report back with 6% dilution.
Where you get UOA for $17 man I'd like that...Blackstone is a tad higher...
Thanks...

High potassium levels are indicative of using Rotella oil. I know for a fact that certain oils will have different levels of certain chemicals after use, and even before use, and it seems that the Rotella brand usually comes back with a high potassium count. As soon as I switched from Rotella to a competitor's oil my potassium levels settled down. YMMV

I use Rotella 5w-40 synthetic and these are my last 5 potassium readings from Blackstone labs. 1, 2, 0, 3 and the latest from 2 months ago showed 0

OOOops, no I use Blackstone too. The $17 is the price of the 4 quarts of oil I add between changes, and I over stated that a bit cause I was in wal-mart the other day and saw oil for $16 for 5 quarts.
