Looking at a new F150(2011)

Howdy! I am currently looking at getting a 2011 F150 4wd XLT Super crew. I have two dodges(a diesel and a lifted 1500 for wheelin) also have a 2005 explorer XLT. Looking at getting rid of the explorer and getting a the above f150 in replacement. Problem is I am debating between the ford, dodge, chevy and toyota half tons. I know what i want just not sure on brand. Always been a dodge and ford guy but there are several good trucks out there now. This truck will not see any towing and on the rare times it does it will be 4000lb or less. I live in Montana and it will see snow and 4wd from oct-may(sometimes sooner and later...) It will see rough gravel road daily and 75mph hwy speeds as well. So since im stumped I am going to post this basically on each forum for each make and see what i come up with. Btw i am also my on mechanic so ease of repairs and maint is a HUGE plus!! If you have had issues with your truck list them too! List things you totally love and hate. If you think the toyota, dodge..etc is the way to go speak up! I want to spend my 32k and be happy haha.

Thanks guys!

Welcome to FTE!

It seems to me as though you are open to most anything. So are you looking mostly for ride quality, build quality, room, style, power, MPG's or all of the above?

If you want all of the above, get an Ecoboost Ford and you'll be totally satisfied.

I doubt anyone of this forum will think Dodge or Toyota is the way to go. What engine are you looking at? I have a FX2 5.0 and love it. I am not a Ford only type guy, but would not consider any other truck; I have driven them all. Good luck.

Engine size is not a biggy to me. all of the above would be nice since i can drive the one ton dully cummins if i want a rough ride, or i can drive my lifted 1500 to get 10mpg lol.
I'd like to have a good well rounded daily driver...

In about a month, the 12's will be released... so if you want new (as in YOU want to order it), you'll have to wait a little bit for engine details.

I cant blame you...I'm trying to buy a second full size truck but the girlfriend thinks I shouldn't. She's not the one writing the check though!

If you havent driven a new F150 drive one. They're phenomenal, and you will want to buy one as soon as you drive it.

Josh I'll throw my 2 cent s in on this.
I traded my 08 f250 diesel in an a 11 f150 Ecoboost supercrew 4x4 6 1/2 ft bed with max tow pkg XLT. I drove the new trucks to other dealerships and compared side by side. I liked the 150 better because more interior room. I have 4 kids. the truck just looked better in appearance too. The Dodge looked too plain to me. The Eco engine just seemed more peppy to me. AND the gas mileage is great compared to my 250. I absolutely love this new 150 with ECO.
Driving is very comfortable. I used to lean over to the right in the old truck but I seem to be laying straight back in the 150 now. Everything is within reach of driver. The SINC system is very nice too. Hands free bluetooth is great. all voice activated. The voice command "GPS" routing is great too.

Driving them all with help you a lot with your decision but I have a feeling that after you drive the EcoBoost you'll be sold especially considering you're coming from a diesel already.

Thanks guys! I am a little worried about reliability with the ecoboost. I will seriously consider it though! Also the bent frame thing worries me a bit since i drive 1000's of miles of gravel roads a year and there full of pot holes( except in winter then there smooth cause of snow pack lol)

The broken frame is in no way associated with the Ecoboost - from what I've read, it revolves around the Raptor and people driving it outside of the recommended ranges. You are talking about a very small percentage, too. Plus, the ones that have broke, have been reported to have aftermarket parts such as chips to make it go faster than recommended and shocks, etc.

Driving anything, takes a little common sense. You go 120 mph and jump a truck on a hardened mud trail - something has got to give.

Well, if you're concerned about frame durability and such, I highly recommend looking at the "Silver Creek" Ford test videos on Youtube. You'll see how much stiffer the ford chassis is against the competition and how composed the suspension is as well. As previously mentioned, the bent frames came from hitting a vertical 12" dirt wall above freeway speeds. The raptors are tough and can take a lot, but they aren't invincible.

OK, I'll bite the hook. What is it about the Ecoboost that worries you?

i have a 2011 platinum 5.0 and love it coming from the last 5 trucks being
f250 diesels. I only chose the 5.0 over the ecooboost because better selection at time of buying. I drove both and to me they are both just as good as the other. I only chose the 5.0 just in case i wanted performance mods, they would be more readily available. I have 9k miles on my truck and think it is a great vehicle. With the ecoboost, there will not be many mods to do like the other ecoboost models. With the 5.0 you can purchase a chip or go crazy with a supercharger or turbo. Of course with either, you can throw away any warranty claims. Just my 2 cents worth
