72 F700 fuel sender problem

Hey, I need a little help. I am trying to find a fuel sending unit for a 72 F700. I found a NOS one for a 68 F700 but I don't know if it will fit. Anybody have any ideas. Thanks,Dave W

Hello D.W.,

You're maybe just a tad vague with your info., but I'll take a stab at it.

Assume you are talking the fuel sending unit that goes in the gas tank? Also assume you are talking about the standard, in-cab, behind-the-seat gas tank?

If "yes" to both of the assumptions, then I'd say chances are very good that the '68 NOS unit will fit the '72 tank. Probably fits the same era pickup trucks, too. Matter of fact, one pickup parts catalog lists the same sending unit fitting ALL F100/F250 in-cab gas tanks from '61 to '72.

So there you have it, that's my idea. But don't bet hard cash on it quite yet. Although I'm usually a fairly good guesser, I'm not always right!

Paul.

I realize you are trying to help the OP, but posting what you did is confusing and somewhat in-correct.

Here's the correct info from actual 1961/79 Ford Truck Parts Catalogs:

D7TZ-9275-G (replaced D0TZ-9275-A & C1TZ-9275-K) .. In-Cab Fuel Tank Sending Unit / Obsolete

Applications: 1961/66 F100/700 / 1963/69 N500/750 / 1967/68 F800 w/330/361/391 FT engines / 1967/77 F100/750 (1967/68 F750 only with those FT engines).

But...do not buy an expensive NOS fuel tank sending unit until you first check the float....which is the usual cause why the dash fuel gauge reads in-correctly.

The float is made from two pieces of copper soldered together. Solder breaks down, gas seeps in, float settles to the bottom of the tank.

Remove the float from the sending unit, then shake it...I'll betcha that gas will be sloshing around inside the little darlin.

COAZ-9202-B .. Fuel Tank Sending Unit Float / Available from Ford.

Applications: ALL 1957/79 Passenger Cars/Trucks; 1961/79 Econolines & 1966/79 Bronco's.

MSRP: $14.49 // FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $10.43.
