Best Mod Motor for new project, need some help

Hey guys, new guy to this part of the forum, usually in the big block area but, Im starting a new project, 1965 F100 short box 2wd and I'm planning on putting a crown vic front end under it. Well my question is what is the best year or 4.6 or 5.4 to look for to stuff under the hood? Going with the modular motor because it will bolt right onto the crown vic front end and everything so fit like headers and oil pan and such with only having to worry about the frame for clearance. So what years should I be looking for the the highest output modular motors. Thanks and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest that you consider the 5.4 DOHC from a Navigator or a Mustang Cobra depending on how deep your pockets are. Keep us posted on your final choice.

Will the 5.4 bolt into the same cradle as the 4.6? Asin the same motor mounts?

Yes, the 2 engines are the same in that respect, with the exception of the overall heigth and width.
