Gears

What gears would you recomend for 37in tires. I don't do alot of pulling I do play from time to time but I do plan on towing as soon as I get my toys and trailer. As of right now I'm not sure what gears are in the bad boy.

How heavy are you going to be towing?

Thanks for the sites, not really sure on how much I'm going to be towing. I need to crunch the numbers. Looking at a tow hauler with four bikes but not sure how big I want to go.

Get your post count to 25 and add your truck info to your signature. That will help us help you!

As I learned on my '05, larger tires (35's) definitely affect towing performance and fuel mileage. Of course, I didn't change the gearing so that does help offset the tire size increase.

Will going from 3.73 to 4.10 improve fuel economy if you have oversize tires?

Not necessarily, but it will improve towing performance depending on the increased size of the replacement tires.

I like to look at this 4Lo.com :: Gear Ratio & Tire Size Chart

In my 05 4x4 Excursion 6.8 V10 it has stock 3.73 gears

In my dads 04 2wd F-250 6.8 V10 he has 4.10 gears.

we both have 285/75R16's= 32.8"

I would give anything to get some different gears to go up because the X seems very slow and it needs a lot of RPM's to get it going, and it usually needs a little more gas to keep it going. For my dads F-250 it feels very good in accelerating and can easy coast at 50mph.

I've been really lookin into a lift and 35's and would definitely consider 4.56 to 4.88...I personally would go for more power/torque than fuel economy...I mean I'm gettin 10ish mpg as it is
