f-600 370 automatic transmission?

Good evening gentlemen, I understand that some kind of automatics were available in 80's 2 tons, I have an excellent 370 I pulled from a 81 or so 600, and would be thrilled to install it in my 77 250, what would that take, besides a flex plate for an automatic with the big crank bolt pattern? Thanks, Johnny

Well, the 370 is a 385-series engine, isn't it? So 460 mounts and bellhousing would work for you. What engine is/was in the '77?

Keep in mind the externally-balanced versus internally-balanced thing too.

The A/T is a Transmatic, there are three versions used with 370/429's, two different flexplates.

D9HZ6375G .. Flywheel (flexplate) / Marked D9HT-BC / Use with Transmatic models MT643 T/M & MT650 T/M.

E5HZ6375A .. Flywheel (flexplate) / Marked E5HT-AA / Use with Transmatic model MT540 T/M.

Will the huge Transmatic case fit under the floorpan of a F100/350?

thats question 2, if the engine ( with an A/T flexplate), would hook up to my c-6 currently in the f-250 (460) Thanks Bill.

thats the plan, if the 370 auto flex plate will be compatible, and some c-6 torque converter, wondered if anybody had done this. Thanks

Is the 370 crank flange actually any different than the 429/460?

Talking Flex Plate

To install a C6 to a 370 you need a neutral balenced 460 flywheel.

flywheel

The 460 flywheel bolts directly to a 370 crank , no difference in bolt pattern.

Looks like I'm doing something very similar and I'm trying to figure out which flywheel to use. I have a 370 that had a manual 4 speed on it. I have a C6 from a 460 that I'm going to put on my 370.

I pulled off the manual transmission from my 370 and the flywheel on the 370 is weighted I believe.

Hotwrench suggested using an unweighted flywheel. Can anyone explain this to me? I know the manual transmissions use a different flywheel. I can get either a weighted or un-weighted flywheel that will fit, just need to know which one.

If your engine had one with a weight, and it didn't shake(was the correct flywheel) then you should install a like flywheel. you will certianly know if you get it wrong.

Thanks Broncoman, that's kinda what my thinking was. I have an old N series that someone put a weighted flywheel on a 330 that was supposed to have a non-weighted. It shook pretty bad until I dropped the dust cover and ground the weight off the flywheel with a hand held grinder.

With the 370, I just wasn't sure if there was some difference in going from the manual to an automatic transmission that would make it necessary to switch from weighted to non-weighted.
