Depending on the weight of the truck , you can get it to run 14s with out to much trouble , and still keep it a DD....a 351 with a good cam , heads , exhaust and other odds and ends will do it...
think of it as.. something i can drive daily, and get decent gas mileage.. but can bring to the track and run some pretty low numbers if that makes any sense. me and my buddies like to race each others trucks a little bit so something i could drive daily, and blow them away when racing.
There are lots of engine build threads on this site so spend some time and surf around to see what is popular and possible. You could do anything from a mild and relatively cheap hop-up that works with the stock EFI system to a 500hp stroker, it's all available for this platfoirm just depends how much you got to spend. Just be aware that if you tend towards the high end of this range you will need to sink some cubic dollars into the transmission and rear axle as well, and making a drivetrain survive when it has both a healthy motor and a lot of weight to move usually comes at the expense of efficiency so you can expect fuel consumption to generally go up once you exceed the load limits of the stock transmission and axle.
