She was a real "barn find" when I found her listed for sale back in February: a 2000 Ford Excursion Limited 2WD V10. Her owner just didn't drive her much, and she sat in the garage most of the time. She had just 32,000 miles on her. I bought her on the spot and then took her to my trusty mechanic to have all her fluids flushed (coolant, trans, brake, steering).
She had a 4.30 rear diff, but not the trailer package (?). So I bought and installed the telescoping trailer mirrors and a Hellwig rear sway bar. I also installed a brand-new Roadmaster Active Suspension and changed the oil with Mobil 1 synthetic.
To prepare for our summer RV vacation, I changed all the brake rotors, all the pads and put on a brand new set of Michelin LTX M/S2s (4 of them, of course). I also purchased a Thule roof rack kit and mounted a 30 sq ft clamshell, lockable storage bin up top. (I removed the factory crossbars and still have them).
I installed a Prodigy P3 brake controller and a 7" LCD monitor with a hidden rear camera (with infra-red night vision) just below the rear lift latch handle. It's all very slick and inconspicuous.
She's got undercoating (so she's rust-free and very solid underneath). She also has a front-set of PIA 50-watt halogen fog lamps and a Lund front hood wind deflector to help keep rock chips to a minimum.
I really like this truck -- the V10 is strong, and I don't know *anybody* who doesn't love this engine (my brother has 200,000+ miles on his E-350, and I've routinely heard others with 300,000+). But after pulling a 9,000 lb travel trailer through the Tennessee mountains, I really miss my old Excursion diesel with the Tow/Haul switch.
I've put 12,000 trouble-free miles on her since I bought her, and I can tell you she's solid. Make me an offer.
Send me an email if you'd like to see pictures. Thanks.
Ok, finally got some photos... I didn't have time to wash her up, so pardon the dust/dirt. She's solid. Tows great. Just got back from NC with her towing a 30' TT. No issues. Tracks wonderfully.
