Do you have some pictures of what your talking about? Are you going to be using an aftermarket radio?

The rail you mentioned...Sounds like the stabilizer rail...sits on the main rear of the unit....

The tabs....Sounds like they simply keep it from sliding out of the hole....

Aftermarket radios use a metal sleeve...Slide the A/M radio into the sleeve, then the whole thing into the hole...VOILA!

yeh i already have a radio and everything..lol...and its just an empty hole hahaha, i tore everything out with some heavy duty pliers. im thinking i may be able to use some super zip-ties and zip-tie the radio to the rail thing and kinda force the faceplate it came with through the opening. haha. now that im not having a rampage bout it, im coming up with ideas.

thats what im thinking. i got some awsome speakers and what not but the radio was being a PITA. im being cheap bout this cause i gotta buy tires this week, i got some pretty gnarly ruts cut into my rear ones plus i got stuck pretty bad yesterday that ended up with my dads Z71 litterally DRAGGING my truck until my tires were on the ground...hehehe

Mine fits perfectly with the sleeve and simply slid into the hole as far as it can go....Never have issues...And plus its easier for me to remove....

And if someone wants it bad enough...They wont be rippin my dash apart....

what i think happened is, after i got it off and actually looked at the stock radio, it looks like someone put it back in a while back and did a bad job, because the releases were all sorn up, and i didnt touch those haha

I'll second what Sidewinder said. If you using an aftermarket single DIN radio with a cage, it should fit right in there.
