Motor Mounts Biscuit or Crossmember

Motor Mounts Biscuit or Crossmember
I have a 1962 F-250 4x4 I will be swapping the 292 with a 1985 351w, I also have the transmission and transfer case out of same pick-up. I was going to build my own mounts, but every body sells them my question is what is the difference between bisquit and crossmember style? The crossmember to me looks better but, could you get headers on there still?
the bisquit style by the picture looks cheezy but is it a better alternative? does anybody have any experience with either of these mounts?

Im really not sure but I like the look of the crossmember style it just looks stronger the one i've been looking at, is out of Dennis Carpenter catalog im sure there all the same though, I hope I can get headers to clear I also asked on engine swaps, no answers there either. Which way are you leading ? I almost just nead to order so I am commited and deal with what I have and stop the back and forth. have a good night thanks for answering.

Guys, from the little bit of research I tried to do, it looks like biscuit mounts were what they used on flat heads and y-blocks - really old stuff. I'm not an expert, but I bet the crossmember style might be better...that is, if you put in one of those Dennis Carpenter crossmembers and put your mounts on that. I think it's $75 plus shipping for a 2 wheel drive. Dunno if it's more for a 4WD.
Maybe some of the real experts will show up on here because I think you run into some of the same mounting issues with a pre 65 2WD as a 4WD. The engines were mounted so differently in these trucks. I still think it's best to just buy the crossmember and use crossmember style mounts, since you're going with a more modern engine.

One thing I think you do have to consider with a crossmember being bolted in where will it be in relation to the live front axle that will be in the area. Two wheel drives of the pre 65 year do have a straight axle to content with. The oil pan on my 65 ran very close to that axle with a 352 on board. Just something to think about and check out. Then there is the matter of the rear motor mounts. Are you going to switch to automatics or do they make an adapter to mate the 292 bell with the ears for rear motor mount to the 351? If they do you might need it to to keep your trucks standard shift. I hope you can keep us posted as to how this all works out being a slick 4x4 owner of two of them. I for one will be interested and watching this post.

The ones I've seen are those winged ones too, I think it was like $90.00 for the crossmember then you buy the mounts for like $85.00. I think my pick-up is high enough to clear the axle with crossmember and oil pan thats a good point though, I better look I also have the standard transmission and transfer case from the 85 F-150 although I will have to change drive shaft length but i'll have to wait on that part for now . machinegunmike make a trip to Montana running 292 is yours.
