Dana 70 dually rear Swap

I just purchased a 95 250 4x4 and would like to make it a dual rear wheel. I have a dana 70 rear and am curious if it will fit. If anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

What's the Dana 70 out of? I have a Dana 70HD from a cheby P30 chassis. The spring mounts will have to removed and rewelded for the correct location of the Ford springs. Also the drive shaft has to be customized for the correct yoke size and lenght.

I too though about using that 8K rated axle and make up a good tow rig! Or use it in a swamp buggy where I can beat on it with out worry(hopefully)

You will also have to figure out how to mount a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)/RABS to that Dana 70. The speedometer requires that input to the PSOM. The PCM also uses the same signal if you have an E4OD transmission. And as it implies the Rear Anti-lock Brake System also uses the direct feed from that sensor as well.

What year is your E350? Somewhere around 1992 the trucks went to an electronic speedometer. In doing so Ford eliminated the VSS in the transmission/transfer case. For an input signal Ford nabbed the RABS sensor output then used a device called a PSOM to divide down the signal for use with the speedometer and PCM.

The OPs truck is a 1995, it uses this setup. I am not aware if a Dana 70 has a port for the VSS/RABS sensor,

The stock Sterling 10.25" axle is very strong. There's one in my F350 cab & chassis dually, and the rear axle weight rating is 8250 lbs. With the exception of length & spring perch location it's the same axle as me F250. You could get the dually spacers for yours and be good to go.

I agree, I would just hit a junkyard for the spacers and use your current axle. Heck of a lot less work.

That answers my question, for you the Dana 70 would be a relatively easy swap. The VSS signal comes from the transmission/transfer case.

Not so easy for the OP's '95 for the reasons I listed before.

Here's some info on relocating the VSS(speedo) sensor to use older or diffrent rear axles.
