I have to rebuild the drivers side front hub cause it is missing parts (so the previous owner told me) and it won't engage . My question is after all the parts are assembled on the axle shaft does the main ***. have to be commpressed to the final snap ring on
No, just reach into the steering knuckle & push the axle stub outboard so you can get the snap ring into the groove, and push the lock ring into the hub for easier access.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Dec-02 AT 05:25 PM (EST)]what lock ring ? My Ford dealership sold me the the parts I needed but they came with an assmbley drawing labled Service Bulletin.
there are more parts than my service manual has shown
No Mine look just like manuals but are auto. I got in touch with all the major hub replacement companies (Mile Maker,Warn ) They all said that they know of no replacement hubs to convert from auto to manual. The hubs ( so I was told ) were only made on 87'- 88' F-150's
If your auto hub locks slip into the dark steel hubs like you see on an '86 or '89 truck, then you can use the standard manual hubs that they do. I don't think you need a "kit" - just a set of manual hub locks.
