gear shift collar kit,# D5TZ-7228-A

Hi guys and girls, I have a question on how to install a Dorman # 83242 Gear shift collar kit. This is for a 1968 ford f100, this is a common problem of them breaking. When I look at the unit on truck I can't figure out how to remove the wires, that is the most important part to me. I have tried everything, I think, but still can't remove the whole unit to replace it. Does anyone know if there is instructions with this kit. Also I might not use this kit, I might buy the one out of LMC since its a direct fit. They say the 73-77 kit will fit the 60's trucks. This is an automatic D,2 and 1,also no hazard light button. Any help would be great. Thanks, hooty1

Here we are six years later and I have the same question. Did you find out what to do with the wires to the horn and signal indicator when you R&R the shifter collar?

Attach twine or wire to the T/S's wires down below. This twine will come up with the T/S switches wires. Leave the twine there. After changing the shift collar use the twine to pull the wires back down.
