Anyone have a 4x4 F-Superduty?

Yeah, That seems to be normal. Guys want an arm and a leg for them. But the problem herein lies. They were Recalled by Alcoa long ago for cracking. Not all of them, but only certain model numbers. So you don't know if your getting some that will crack or not.
I have a hard time justifying paying high dollars for wheels that may not hold up.

this is a bit off topic for a 4wd conversion,but it's still good info to know.i happened across an f450 w/ 4.30 gearing with LS no less.it was an '97. sure would be cool to score one.check it out;

such a shame we had such limited options pre '99 in all our trucks.dang ford.i mean many people need the large truck for payload but don't need such massive gearing for hauling bulldozers around ya know,but they were all geared that way (so i thought until i found axle code g3) it could handle the 15k gross.......easy even with my old idi the 4.30's would be plenty.so 4.63 might be best for the 460 but good god man,those 5.13's are steep just for hauling.
dual late model f450/550 axles with 4.30's (edit: oh.hmm.maybe those only come with 4.88.id need to research more) are the way to convert to 4wd though probably.couple grand and done.no hassles with sourcing hard to find parts like odd ball ball joints,tie rods in custom axles no longer in production or hassles with getting an e-brake etc.

yeah but what good is the M&H axle really if you can't find parts?
Iv got one job going on right now where i called a fellow arborist with a bucket to come help me with a couple trees (well two jobs.one by wires and one i can't get by climbing,based on how it grew) and his bucket truck was converted using an M&H and he can't help me because his truck is down.........he has a shot tie rod end and can't find a replacement.that's no good for business.id never put myself in that position.you need to be able to source parts.
Brad,whats the basics on the dana 70 front axle?

I think the 70 is easier to get parts for. But not as easy as a 60

I have 2 Marmon Herrington trucks, had 3 but the f850 is gone now, and there are few used parts for them, but there are a few new parts places. I use this site for reference.
Marmon-Herrington Aftermarket Axles and Transfer Cases
Keep looking for parts, they are out there.

the 70 looks very similar to the 60s (the king pin version)
I have not really dug in to see U-joint or axle sizes. I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
As for the HM axle, I have herd the same thing, hard to find parts AND the turning radius sucks

Im curious to know the actual 60 to 70 differences.
