brake lights

Sometimes my brake lights don't work, and I can't put the truck into gear.

I have to repeatedly push down HARD on the pedal to make the switch work.

I am assuming it is an electric switch that is dependant upon the position of the brake pedal for on/off, and not a hydraulic switch looking for pressure?

Is the switch position adjustable, and maybe it has moved and needs readjusting?

...or do you think it is just going bad?

Thanks for any help.

The Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch is responsible for brake lights. It's on the brake pedal arm where the arm meets the master cylinder push rod. It's not adjustable.

It's a dealer only item, it's not terribly expensive but it's a bit difficult to wrap yourself up and get up in there to replace it.
