Well I suppose you all have talked me out of this truck then, lol......
Now, going a direction I didnt plan on , but my girlfriend and I had been talking about maybe I should buy a Superduty like her.
Found an 03 F230 dually V10 locally for 18,000 asking price, because she doesnt think that ill be happy with an old beater with the distances I have to drive to go wheeling.
I guess stay in tuned for more threads if you guys dont mind helping me out

Its not that there isnt much to spend, its that I just didnt want to spend much because it takes away from other things. My girlfriend things its worth it to front the money for a nice truck.

Wow, haha, quite the price change there! That much truck would do the job, but I bet you could land somewhere in the middle of the $400 and $18,000 price and be very happy. Like in a 96' or 97' powerstroke quad cab (didn't you say that's your dream truck?). Those will tow, and look nice too.

1. Buy older diesel or find deal on newer one. It MUST be a dually, a SRW will CRY
2. Build gooseneck or find one cheap
That will tow what ya want, but Id find a diesel and a stick-an autos gonna burn up and a gas jobs not gonna have the *****.
Old super duty rollback would be best, I used to drive one for work 500k and still going strong on that IDI.

as it happens, i own an 87 F 250 with a 6.9. first, i will point out that the 6.9 diesel engine in Ford trucks was manufactured by International, your diesel mechanic buddy should have few problems working on it. Second, the manual transmission in 87 was a 3 speed. the 5 speed must be an after market install. the automatic was a 4 speed with OD. third. although thr 460 has more horse power, the 6.9 has more torque, an important factor when considering hauling 7 tons of off road vehicles. also. i have a friend with a 86 F350 with the 460. though only a F250, my truck can out pull his and i get over twice the mpg he does. as for hauling a Jeep on a flatbed with headache bar really isnt an option. most states have a max height allowance of 156 inches. the bed height on an F 250 is about 40 to 50 inches. that doesnt leave a lot of room for an off road truck unless it doesnt have any lift. the 6.9 requires two 12 volt batteries to start. it is a 24 volt system. the fuel leak is likely a ruptured fuel line or punctured or unsealed fuel filter.
