my FTVB are the same way! i tried pushing them in andout with no luck, eventually all the pushing and pulling it finally just popped out by itself. turning it helped also like it was sticking in one spot and not the others?

small update, i added four shims to the 1-2 control valve, now i have none in the 2-3 at all. the 1-2 is allot better but 2-3 once in a blue moon will shift extremely hard? I had the truck hot flushed last week and had them put apressure gauge on the trans and test drive it. the tech said everthing was in normal specs for the pressure's and the old fluid was clean and no metal or clutch material was in it. So two hundred later still the same soft 1-2 at WOT.

I finally had to drill and tap mine to get it out. Now I'm on the look out for a new one. trucks been down for a month now. I think I'm going to cry

i removed the FTVB fully and installed my stock valve body. NOW running my stock tune the truck shifts 100% stock, slow soft laggy but no flares, hard shifts etc. BUT as soon as i install my SCT tuner i get soft 1-2 shifts, and that random extremely hard 2-3 shift! Now i don't know if its a electrical problem, a SCT problem or what? The problem is my SCT tune's have no shift pressure added because i had the FTVB so Mike didn't put pressure on the tunes. So i install a tune that has no pressure added and what the hell i get weird bizarre shifts, i try to adjust the pressure in the options and it doesn't help. Then i go back to stock and after a day or so of driving it goes back normal and its fine. Again now i think its something electrical because it takes a day or two of driving for the computer to go back to stock......

As I heard Mark K say the other day, the computer in our trucks doesn't learn anything. It isn't that smart. With that said, that's all I know about transmissions. I'm just hoping mine holds out another year or two then I'm headed to Arkansas.

i thought it had something called adataped shift stragity or something? if so i suppose the 500 bucks i spent are a waste, three different shops, hot flushes, pressure checks, etc all within spec. no metal orsludge in the trans pan or magnet. The only thing left is to buy a rebuilt stock valve body and see if it helps. if not play with the shims till i get the shifts ok and drive her till she blows up or i buy a new truck.............

Sorry, I know this is old, but I have a FTVB in my gas Excursion, and am thinking of swapping it over to my newer one. Instead of trying to tune in a stock valve body, did you try tuning "out" the FTVB with less line pressure?
I will be getting a 5 Star for my Ex when it is done being built, and don't know which way to go either. Mike prefers doing it with the computer, but sounds like that doesn't work well. I just had another tuning place write a tune for my F150 with 4r70w, and they really made the transmission shift funny, like was originally posted in this thread. Shifts hard, but sloppy at the same time? Like instead of popping straight from gear to gear, there is a second of neutral which allows the engine to rev up and then slam in, feeling really bad when driving. My FTVB in my Ex has ZERO delay between shifts, nice and firm. But I am also running 38" tires with Deavers in the back, so I am sure a lot of the shock is being sucked up by spring wrap.
I noticed that the FTVB also shifts nice and hard when barely on the gas, and softer when on the gas hard, which is the opposite of the tune on my F150, it shifts stock when barely on the gas, and harder the harder I am on it.
Chris
