Good catch "L-85". That was indeed a factory tu-tone for the 1984 explorer only.
I would think though that the explorer stripe was removed rather than deleted if it is an 1984 explorer.
A lot of replacing parts on that truck that doesn't belong with the year, and it's not the original paint everywhere...
a build sheet would determin it one way or the other.

81 F-150...After the post on the Explorer option..I, too, thought that the horizontal stripe had been removed. As far as paint..I think the left front fender has been painted or spotted..but I don't see any other places..I changed what is seen..wheels..lenses..The door pockets were replaced with carpeted ones from a Bronco..and the red console fdrom the Bronco sits on the seat ..held by a couple bungee cords...It provides storage and cup holders..The wheels are '92..including the one in the bed ..mounted on an old Dick Cepek mount..And the King Ranch..LOBO emblems replaced a cracked one...Flowmaster exhaust with a Trans Am tip.. I put the rear bumper on ..CHROME..and I have all the stock parts..down to the original hubcaps..This project was not a restoration..It is just a nice old truck that I drive once in a while..I was not in the least bit concerned with originality. Thanks for the EXPLORER info..I have a sales brochure somewhere..I'll see if it is mentioned..JV..PS..I just finished a custom utility trailer that is painted to match the truck..Enkei wheels, '39 Ford blue dots, etc..
