Installing 08 Mirrors on 04 with pics.

Today my new 08 mirrors came in and I had the time to install them. Here is a little write up on how I did it.

First need to remove the window control panel. Make sure you pry up on the front of the panel so you don't break the rear plastic tab. Then just unplug the four plugs.

Then with a 7mm nut driver remove the top bolt hidden by the window panel.

With the same driver remove the lower bolt behind the red deflector.

Now you can take off the door panel by just lifting it straight up. No plastic tabs to remove.

With a 5.5mm socket remove the 4 bolts that hold the speaker on.

More on next post.

Now with a 11mm socket remove the four bolts holding on the mirror. Just remove the two rubber plugs towards the front of the truck. The middle one stays there.

For the last 2 nuts you have to peel back the grey sticky stuff to see them.

Before you remove the mirror it's a good idea to have someone holding it on the other side. Now you can unplug the mirror plug which is behind the grey sticky stuff. It may take a little force to remove the old mirror due to the seal being there for a while.

Now the new plug will not fit the old plug inside the door. So I went and cut the plug end off the old mirror and spliced it into the new mirror.

Before you install the new mirror you will have to cut a little plastic tab off. I used a Dremel tool and it came off very easily.

There is one too many wires on old plug and two yellow ones. So I found the one that works and went from there.

Now after everything is spliced together just reverse the steps and its all done. Took me about a hour just going at a slow pace.

I love these new mirrors. They look great and much more functional.

Did you need to replace the panel mirror control switch? Or is it the stock switch? Are you able to retract/extend/fold the mirrors?

OK. They are the newer style but I guess they fit the older trucks. I am assuming they are direct plug in? Mine are power but do not have heat or turn signals. Will these new ones still work?
