it depends on what head he is putting on what block.
the only real difference between a 429 and 460 is the crank and pistons. all other parts are the same. the passenger car 429's and 460's shared the same block and heads. the only heads that were only offered on a 429 were the cobra jet heads (casting DOOE), but they bolt onto a 460 with no problem.
the difference lies in that the early heads had screw in rocker studs while the later heads had bolt down roker assembly. also the deck height of the early blocks was lower then the later blocks. so depending on what head you put on what block, you might be able to use stock pushrods or you might have to get longer or shorter aftermarket pushrods to get the correct rocker arm geometry. none of the factory heads (except for the super cobra jet heads) had adjustable rocker arms, so you have to either convert the heads to adjustable rocker setup or determine the correct pushrod lenght to match your combo.
so yes the head willl bolt on, but what adjustments depends on what head and block he is using and what machine work was done to head or block.
clear as mud.
