Miller 211 and 0.025" wire?

Hello folks. I have a Miller 211 MIG welder. I've bought some "Easygrind" wire in a 0.025" size. I just discovered that the welder only came with 0.030" and 0.035" tips. No problem, I go online to see if I can buy one in the right size only to find out they only make a 0.023" tip for the 211, not a 0.025" tip.

Are the two size close enough that it does not matter? Can 0.025" wire work with the 0.023" tip?

Any help appreciated.

Gustave

Probably, …but if not,….. what a perfect excuse to buy a set of number drill bitts!

You can use the .025 wire and the .030 tip without any problem. It's not goin to be that loose and it's not goin to cause that much slop. As a matter of fact with stainless steel wire, you are supposed to run a .05 up tip from the size of wire you're running. At least that's what my welding salesman told me. I know that when I tried to use the same size tip, it caused all kinds of problems and when I went to the .05 up on ss it worked fine. So I'd say with regular steel wire that.05 up it aint goin to hurt anything. Give it try, its not goin mess up anything, but you can NOT use the .023 with the .025 cause its smaller than the wire unless you drill it out. I hope this helps man.

I have a drill press and tons of bits, so drilling it out will not be a problem. Should have thought of that. Thanks guys.

I think you'll be surprised at how difficult it is to drill with a #72 drill. Just go to your local welding supply store and buy the ones you need. What are we talking about here? $6-$8?

What I started out saying in my first post is that Miller does not make a tip in the 0.025" size. I have no problem buying one if it is available. But it appears not to be.

You could try Hobart? Miller owns them now and alot of stuff interchanges between them sometimes? But I'm telling you I dont think you'll have any problems running the .030tip with your .025 wire. I think it will be fine. You also need to make sure with all welders to clean your feed rollers from time to time but especially if this one dont have the double gear drive? I'm not familiar with this model Miller? I only use Miller in my shop but mine is an older model. Mine is a Millermatic250.

Hope this helps man

I weld for a living and we always use a tip that is a little bigger than the wire, this helps to keep the wire from dragging and burning back in the tip. For .035" aluminum, steel and bronze wire we use a .044" tip and on 3/64th's aluminum wire we use a .063" tip which is about .016" bigger than the wire.

Yep, I knew I was right about that or thought I was anyway. I tried using the same size tip on SS wire and it bound up something terrible. It would be better to run a little bit bigger tip on there and keep it from "bird'snesting" in the feed drive. That's not so much of a problem on my machine but on the single wheel drive machines (without the other gear) they are bad about bird's nesting the wire cause of burnback at the tip which is really aggrivating I hate rethreading wire through the gun .
