Fuel filter on F250

1989 F250HD

I cannot find the fuel filter. Even after reading the factory manual. It goes into every possible detail but very cryptic. It says the fuel filter is located on the frame rail between the frame-mounted high pressure pump and engine

I don't know where this "high pressure pump is", I suspect it is on the right side of the engine but couldn't find it. Must I crawl underneath the vehicle to access it?

Cool Fuel filter on F250

Your fuel filter is inside the drivers side frame rail just forward of where your seat is, it looks like an oversize oil pressure sender in case you've never seen one before, and FYI the Purolator number is 63169, the fuel lines are attached with a plastic clip at each end, should just be able to pry these out with a small screw driver, and slide the new ones that come with the new filter in by pushing with your finger,BTW when you slide the lines off of the old filter make sure you have eye protection on, and turn your head away, as there will be some fuel pressure present.

" Inside drivers side frame rail " . OK. Is it hard to get to? I will attempt to replace it.

I found it. Seems like a straight-forward procedure but one has to crawl under it. I got the fuel filter today. It looks big compared to what's found on cars.

You will have to crawl under your truck to change the filter, it is probably held onto the bracket on the frame with a band clamp which you can loosen up so it will slide out, again,PLEASE BE VERY CAREFULL OF YOUR EYES WHEN REMOVING THE OLD FILTER!
Ford has used this same filter on cars, and trucks mounted in various places since at least 1983 that I know of, then it was changed a little around '92 I believe.
