Transfer Case Leaking

You need to drain the transfer case. Remove the front driveline, Clean up the outside of the area so you don't get dirt into the transfer case or the seal when you are working. The yoke is held in by a nut on the end of the pinion. I can't remember what size it is, but you need to remove it and the yoke will slide off the spline. Then you can pry the seal out of the housing and clean it up. There is also a rubber seal behind the nut and washer on the yoke. You would do well to replace it while you are there, it seals the splines. I use a big socket that matches the diameter of the seal and CAREFULLY tap the new seal into the housing You need to be sure you get it started into the housing straight so you don't bend it.. I usually put a THIN coat of sealer on the metal outside of the seal just to be sure. You should also take a look at the area on the yoke where the seal rides. If it is grooved you can adjust how far you insert the seal a small amount to get the lip off of the grooved area. It is really easier than it sounds, be clean and be careful and you shouldn't have any issue at all. I'd buy the seal first and take a look at it if you have never seen one. That will make a lot come clear. Good luck!.
