Custom Center Console

Custom Center Console
Im thinking about building a center console for my 79 F150. Ill probably build it out of 1/4 mdf, possibly fiberglass for certain components, then carpet it. Cup holders in this truck would be nice, probably make them out of glass. My cousin works at Bestbuy and can get me some good speakers on the cheap so Ill include them. Could any of y'all post up pics of center consoles you've made?

Realized I had some left over 3/4" mdf so Ive started.
Used posterboard to make a model/template.
Transferred to the mdf but made the top narrower for a tapered look.
Test fit.
This is just the first step. More cutting and gluing in my future. I'll also be making an overhead console out of fiberglass for switches and a CB.

Bro you absolutely could do this, just takes time and simple tools! Cut yourself some holes in it for cups, hang a shelf off the side for small items, or cut out slots in the top of it to slip a gauge panel in that faces up and towards the driver, or even your stereo at a 45 degree angle facing up towards the driver, smooth it all with filler like the poster described or even use bondo to smooth it up, take a file and sandpaper or dremel tool to it, cover it with stretchable carpet and you have a great custom piece you will be proud of. I know you could do it. Why not give it a try and then show us what you've done?

I'll be cutting holes for 2 cup holders and a tray for assorted sundries. Those will be glass for ease of construction.
Exactly. So far the only tools ive used are a jigsaw, carpenter's square, drill, and a rasp.
You could still make one. Make a cut out around the shifters and use vinyl to cover the holes. Even if there isnt a ton of useful space, it would still look sick.

Also gives you a space for speakers.
Plus, mines only 6" tall. It wouldnt be all that much travel at that height.
